Spanish dancers entertaining guests at the Gala Dinner in Kozhikode following the arrival of the airline's new flight from Doha.
Doha, QATAR – Qatar Airways rounded off the launch of its newest Indian route with a gala dinner celebrating flights to the southern coastal city of Kozhikode.
Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker hosted the event at the city’s deluxe Kadavu Resort, where a Spanish dance troupe entertained guests from the corporate, travel and leisure sectors.
The Master of Ceremony was Indian television personality and theatre artist Anuradha Menon, better known for her flamboyant TV character Lola Kutty.
Kozhikode is Qatar Airways’s ninth Indian route and 83rd overall, with non-stop daily flights from Doha, capital of the State of Qatar. The airline now operates 58 flights a week from Doha to Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Cochin, Trivandrum, Hyderabad, Kozhikode and Nagpur.

During his short visit to Kozhikode, Al Baker briefed local and international media on the airline's expansion plans, which include the launch of non-stop flights between Doha and Houston from November 10. He also gave a progress update of the New Doha International Airport, which is slated to open in 2011.
The airline, which has a 62-strong fleet of Airbus and Boeing aircraft, currently has orders for more than 200 jets worth over US$30 billion.

Doha-based Qatar Airways will operate a fleet of 110 aircraft by 2013 – almost double the existing size. Qatar Airways has ordered 80 Airbus A350s, 60 Boeing 787s and 32 Boeing 777s, with deliveries of the latter having started in November 2007. The airline is a launch customer of the twin-deck Airbus A380 ‘super jumbos’ with five aircraft on order and scheduled for delivery from 2010.
