Flying from Paris
Just 14 miles northeast of Paris is Charles de Gaulle International Airport, France’s largest air hub and one of the most important international travel points in Europe. In 2015 it was awarded the Skytrax award for the World’s most improved airport, and its airport shopping facilities and services are rated in the top five and top 10 in the world respectively.
Combined with outstanding transportation connecting it to the French capital and excellent levels of services, Charles de Gaulle International Airport is among the best in the world.
Transportation and parking
Transport to and from the airport is excellent, with a network of trains, buses, and underground services connecting the airport to the capital. The SNCF main line station at Paris CDG is called Aeroport Charles de Gaulle 2 TGV and is located between terminals 2C-2D and 2E-2F. The airport is also linked by the RER B service to Paris and the suburbs.
This service runs to and from Aeroport Charles de Gaulle 1, which is closest to Terminals 1 and 3. A fleet of taxis is available around the clock, and limousines are also available for pre-booking. Passengers flying from Paris with Qatar Airways should park in the car parks closest to Terminal 2. Long-stay parking is located opposite Terminals 1 and 3.
Arriving at Charles de Gaulle International Airport
Passengers flying from Paris with Qatar Airways will depart from Terminal 1. An on-line check in service is available. Escalators will take you up to the departure area.
Major functions such as check in and baggage claim are located in the centre of the terminal, with departure gates distributed around the outer ring.
Facilities and amenities
Departing guests can find different facilities in Terminal T1, including a selection of retail outlets selling high-end luxury goods.
Changing areas and rest areas are dotted throughout the terminal, and this being Paris there is an excellent selection of food and drink outlets selling everything from coffee and croissants through to full a la carte menu meals.
Arriving in Phnom Penh
For many years known as the ‘Paris of the East’, today Phnom Penh is regaining its stature on the world stage as a capital city that welcomes and enchants visitors from all over the planet.
A complex and quirky city full of unexpected sites and filled with warm, welcoming people, Phnom Penh is now also turning into a commercial powerhouse that is embracing international commerce with open arms.
Book a flight to Phnom Penh and discover a city full of juxtapositions between ultra-modern developments and traditional culture, with a distinctly French Colonial undertone that can still be seen in its architecture.
Tourist attractions
The Royal Palace has to be on every visitor’s itinerary, with not one but two stunning pagodas within its grounds; the Silver Pagoda and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha.
These were in fact built in the 19th century using French technology and traditional Cambodian designs, making them an interesting mix of two very distinctive cultures. Note that no photography is allowed inside the Silver Pagoda, and visitors are expected to dress respectfully.
The National Museum of Cambodia gives visitors a fascinating insight into the culture and history of the country, from ancient times through to more recent events.
Its main attraction is a rather fine statue of the 12th century ruler King Jayavarman VII, as well as a host of artefacts and magnificent art from the country’s ‘golden age’.
Just outside the city is Wat Phnom, a tranquil open space with an ancient temple at its heart. The park is home to a troop of monkeys, who can be quite cheeky and steal visitors’ drinks if they leave them unattended.
