New York City is our favourite American city for fireworks on New Year’s Eve. Watch the famous ball drop in Times Square, followed by star-studded performances, an address from the Mayor, and an impressive confetti release – all capped off by fireworks. Beyond Times Square, the city buzzes with celebrations from immersive theatre at Sleep No More, to rooftop venues, and boat cruises on the Hudson.

Top tip: Arrive at Times Square at least an hour before your ticketed entry – many visitors even set up camp for the day to secure a good spot.

Aptly named the City of Lights, Paris makes for a jaw-dropping sight on New Year’s Eve. Join the festivities on Champs-Élysées, where celebrities and performances illuminate the night with a light show on the Arc de Triomphe, colourful parades, and fireworks. For a different experience, hop on a Seine River cruise, indulging in a gourmet dinner while watching the New Year’s Eve fireworks.

Top tip: Dress in layers, as temperatures dip to around 3°C, and don’t forget a waterproof coat for those chilly midnight moments.
