Hangzhou is one of the most important tourist destinations in China, and is renowned for the sheer beauty of its surroundings. It is also a hugely important political and economic centre, making it a key destination for investors and business travellers.

Fly to Hangzhou with Qatar Airways and discover the Capital of China’s eastern Zhejiang Province. Hangzhou is a cultural and economic centre, and home to 8.7 million people. Its central landmark is the 6.5-square-kilometre West Lake, a freshwater idyll, sectioned by causeways and speckled with pagodas, temples and artificial islands.

Check the price of flights to Hangzhou further below and prepare for an adventure in China's eastern reaches when you book Economy or Premium Class flights to Hangzhou with Qatar Airways.

Flying from Algiers

Algiers International Airport, also known as Houari Boumediene Airport, is one of the busiest airports in north Africa and Algeria’s main international air transport hub. The airport is located around 17 kilometres southeast of the city, making it convenient for business travellers and tourists alike. The airport is an excellent starting point for your journey when you fly from Algiers with Qatar Airways.

Transportation and parking

Transport from the centre of Algiers is easy, with plenty of buses and taxis available from all parts of the city. The N11 coastal road leads straight to the airport and offers a very scenic drive, while buses take approximately 30 minutes from the centre of the city to drop off points outside the main terminal buildings. Taxis can be booked ahead by your hotel concierge (and in fact this is advisable rather than hailing a cab at the roadside). The journey takes around 25 minutes, depending on the time of day and traffic conditions. Allow a little extra time if you are travelling to the airport during morning and evening rush hours. Parking at the airport is available, with both short and long-term car parks close to the terminals, including 5,000 spaces next to the International terminal.

Arriving at the airport

Passengers flying from Algiers with Qatar Airways depart from Terminal 1, Hall 1. The large Departure area has 16 passenger gates, so navigating your way around is quite easy. However, security is exceptionally tight at Algiers International Airport, so allow at least two hours before your flight is due to board to clear customs and security checks. There are public lounges and several VIP private lounge areas with business facilities available.

Facilities and amenities

A plentiful choice of food and shopping makes Algiers International Airport very popular with travellers, and there is a large Duty Free shop and other retail outlets throughout the terminals. Food and drink providers offer everything from three-course meals to on-the-go snacks and coffee, as well as light meals and pastries. The airport has several banking outlets and change booths, and pay-as-you-go Wi-Fi access is available in all public areas. Vouchers to access the internet can be bought from newsagents and coffee shops in the airport.

Arriving in Hangzhou

Hangzhou is one of the most important tourist destinations in China, and is renowned for the sheer beauty of its surroundings. It is also a hugely important political and economic centre, making it a key destination for investors and business travellers.

As the city is constantly welcoming thousands of tourists from around the world, you’ll have plenty to see and do during your time in Hangzhou. The surrounding countryside is stunning, as immortalised by countless poets, artists and writers over the centuries, and parts of the city are designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Tourist attractions

Top of the list for most tourists visiting Hangzhou is the West Lake Scenic Area, a collection of 10 locations focused around the West Lake itself. The best way to see it is to put on a pair of walking boots and explore on foot. The 10 Scenes of the West Lake were created by Emperor Kangxi during the Qing Dynasty, and updated versions have been recreated by various rulers ever since. A boat ride on the lake is a great way to see the sights from a different perspective, and don’t miss the Broken Bridge, a truly romantic spot with fabulous views over the lake.

The city is full of temples and pagodas (multi-tiered towers), with perhaps the most iconic being the Baochu Pagoda on the north of the lake. While you cannot enter the pagoda, it is a very tranquil spot and has inspired poets and artists for centuries. One of the largest pagodas is the Six Harmonies, a short cab ride from the lake. There is also a park that contains replicas of the world’s most famous pagodas in miniature, complete with bonsai trees.

Gardens are central to Chinese culture, and the best in Hangzhou is Guo’s Villa, a private traditional garden that focuses on the spirit of water as its key theme. It’s a visual representation of the ancient Tao, and visitors can also try some traditional Chinese tea in the teahouse.
