Heydar Aliyev International Airport is located just about 20 kilometres away from the centre of Baku, the capital of the country, and is a modern airport that sees up to three million passengers a year. However, it has the capacity to handle twice that number, so passengers flying from Baku with Qatar Airways will find it to be a spacious, comfortable and well-organised airport that focuses on the customer experience from the moment of arrival until take-off.
Situated on its own island close to the Malay Peninsula, the city state of Singapore is often considered one of the region’s most accessible destinations. It’s a densely packed nation of more than five million people, made up of Chinese, Malay, Eurasian, and Indian residents. Singapore also has a healthy dose of expatriates from around the world.
Although it is distinctly Asian, Singapore’s origins as a British colony are still plain to see. English is an official language alongside Malay, Chinese and Tamil, but this extraordinary locale is much more than a colonial outpost.
Book a flight to Singapore with Qatar Airways and discover a rich, varied and exotic destination that’s full of surprises.
Flying from Baku
Heydar Aliyev International Airport is located just about 20 kilometres away from the centre of Baku, the capital of the country, and is a modern airport that sees up to three million passengers a year. However, it has the capacity to handle twice that number, so passengers flying from Baku with Qatar Airways will find it to be a spacious, comfortable and well-organised airport that focuses on the customer experience from the moment of arrival until take-off.
Transportation and parking
A custom-built highway leads from Baku right to the airport, so travellers arriving by car will find it to be an easy and hassle-free journey.
If you don’t have a hire car then the easiest way to get to the airport, especially if you have a large amount of luggage, is to pre-order a taxi through your hotel concierge or reception. Buses do run to the airport, but they tend to be very crowded. Two parking lots are available, one in front of each of the terminal buildings. There are spaces for up to 1,600 vehicles on both short and long-term parking.
Arriving at the airport
Passengers flying from Baku with Qatar Airways depart from Terminal 1, which is for international flights only. The terminal is modern and well designed, meaning that check-in processes and customs checks are relatively smooth and quick.
Allow approximately an hour and a half to two hours before your flight is due to board, and ensure that all your documentation is correct and in order before you arrive, as security can be tight.
Facilities and amenities
The terminal has Duty Free outlets where you can pick up last-minute gifts, perfume and luxury items. A few food vendors offer snacks-on-the-go and hot beverages, and Wi-Fi is available in some areas of the airport. The interior design of the terminal includes a series of oak-veneer ‘cocoons’, some of which act as small private lounges. There are ATMs and currency exchange facilities, as well as comfortable and very spacious lounge areas.

Singapore’s beaches are a little slice of paradise, especially those on the tranquil Sentosa Island. If you prefer exploring colonial architecture, then head to the Bras Basah area east of Orchard and north of the Singapore River, to find a cluster of historical buildings and museums. Perhaps the city’s most famous building is the Raffles Hotel (which has appeared in plenty of films), while the National Museum of Singapore offers a more in-depth exploration of the history and culture of the region.
Singapore’s wildlife is unique and a big draw for explorers and visitors. To get a real feel for the flora and fauna of the region visit the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve. The Jurong Bird Park and Singapore Zoo should also be on your list if you’re an animal lover.
