Jeddah: Saudi Arabia’s thriving port city

Book your visit to Jeddah

The Saudi Arabian port city of Jeddah is a thriving metropolitan, deep-rooted in history, culture and spiritual significance. As the gateway to the holy city of Mecca, it is a vital hub for religious journeys within the region.

Beyond its spiritual significance, Jeddah boasts a blend of cultural richness and modern attractions. From its vibrant souqs and bustling streets, to its serene waterfront and majestic architecture, Jeddah offers a myriad of experiences that everyone can enjoy.

Things to do in Jeddah

Familiarise yourself with the history of Jeddah by exploring Old Jeddah (Al Balad). Beautifully preserved coral houses stand as a testament to the traditional Arabian architecture. The intricate designs and unique materials used to build them offer a glimpse into the city’s plentiful past.

A trip to Jeddah wouldn’t be complete without a tour around its captivating mosques. These architectural gems stand as iconic landmarks, with some dating back 1,400 years.

Strolling around the city?
Be sure to catch a glimpse of the King Fahd Fountain – the world’s tallest – as water soars 312 metres into the air creating a mesmerising spectacle.

Delve further into the city’s cultural heritage by visiting the Tayebat Museum, showcasing historical architecture and artefacts.

Activities in Jeddah

Take a leisurely stroll down the Jeddah Corniche. The waterfront promenade stretches along the Red Sea, providing spectacular ocean views and public art installations to enjoy.

And as Jeddah is a coastal city, a visit to Al Saif beach is a must. The sunny coastline presents a great spot for sunbathing or unwinding by the ocean.

Seeking a little more adventure? Go scuba diving and snorkelling in the Red Sea. The sea’s pristine waters are the best to explore stunning marine life and coral reefs – so jump in! There’s plenty of tours available for both beginners and skilled divers.

If you are travelling to Jeddah with the whole family, spend a day playing around Sail Island – a waterpark with swimming pools, water slides, and attractions that will keep you cool.

Food in Jeddah

The food scene in Jeddah is an appetising fusion of global and local flavours. With internationally renowned restaurants offering specialty dishes from across the world, to eateries serving classical Saudi Arabian meals – you’ll be spoilt for choice.

Indulge in the rich, local cuisine with a big bowl of kabsa. This fragrant and flavourful rice dish is cooked with meat, vegetables and a delightful blend of spices. It’s often served at family gatherings and celebrations, symbolising a meal of warmth and hospitality.

Make sure to order a traditional Saudi coffee on your travels, known as Qahwa. Unlike regular coffee, Qahwa is typically brewed with cardamom and served with dates. It’s a local custom to enjoy a coffee together.
