Flying from Bangkok
The remarkable curved architecture and stunning design concept of the ultra-modern Bangkok Airport makes it a pleasure to fly from, and one of the most memorable airports in the world.
From its vaulted ceiling to its elegant lounges, extensive facilities and excellent transport connections, Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport is the departure point for Qatar Airways flights from Bangkok.
Transportation and parking
Transport to and from the airport is extensive, making it easy to get around. Four bus lines, A, B, C and D, cover the whole of the complex and provide regular connections from the transport centre to the passenger terminals, VIP lounge and hotels.
Taxis arrive at the main departures point, and the airport has an extensive limousine service, offering six different types of limousines and a total of 380 cars available around the clock. For details, contact the Limousine counter Level 2, Baggage Claim Hall or Arrival Hall.
Between the airport’s official Novotel hotel and the terminal building are two 5-storey car park buildings that can hold up to 5,000 cars on short and long-stay parking.
Arriving at Suvarnabhumi International Airport
Travellers boarding Qatar Airways flights will need to go to the departures area on Level 4 within the main terminal. The airport is very large, so take advantage of the porter service if you have a lot of luggage. Drop-off points for taxis and cars are located outside the main entrance.
Facilities and amenities
The ultra-modern facilities at the airport make it easy to navigate, despite its size. There are 130 passport control checkpoints for arrivals, and 72 for departures, with 26 customs control checkpoints for arrivals, and eight for departures.
There are about 50 food and drink outlets throughout the terminal. Duty-free shopping is also available in what is practically a mall full of outlets, from high-end luxury goods and perfumes, to confectionery and books.
Arriving in Hanoi
Vietnam’s capital is a vibrant, bustling and sometimes confusing fusion of East and West. This energetic destination is opening up to tourism and is rapidly becoming one of the powerhouses of the ‘Tiger Economy’ in the Far East, making it popular with business travellers too.
A heady blend of traditional Vietnamese culture and modernism, the city also has a residue of French influence from its days as a colony of France.
Today it is expanding rapidly, and if you book a flight to Hanoi with Qatar Airways you’ll discover a city that’s very much in the ascendancy.
Hanoi is an unforgettable destination.
Tourist attractions
The city is well known for its state-run museums such as the Museum of the Vietnamese Revolution (Bảo tàng Cách mạng Việt Nam) and the Ho Chi Minh Museum, which both chart the recent and tumultuous history of the country.
It’s also worth seeking out some of the lesser-known attractions though, including the One-Pillar Pagoda, which is tucked away between the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and Museum.
This odd little feature is a reminder of Hanoi’s older history and is a charming and quintessentially Vietnamese location.
Hanoi’s temples are architecturally stunning, particularly the Temple of Literature (Văn Miếu), which dates back to the 9th century and has been the country’s centre of learning for nearly a thousand years.
Hoan Kiem Lake is a blissfully tranquil location that makes a pleasant change from the noise of the city. If you want to get a real taste of the city then food tours are a great way to experience Vietnamese culture first hand.
Part of that culture is puppetry, and a visit to the Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre takes you on an entertaining tour of Vietnam’s legends and stories.
