Flying from Osaka
Osaka Kansai International Airport is one of two air hubs serving the huge city of Osaka, but is the only one offering international flight availability.
Passengers flying from Osaka with Qatar Airways should note that the closer Osaka International Airport only provides a domestic service, so it is important to arrive at the correct airport to catch your flight.
Colloquially known as Kankū in Japanese, this is one of Japan’s busiest air travel centres, and as you would expect is exceptionally well run, clean and efficient. Flights from Osaka are a pleasure, and the highly professional staff are attentive and determined to provide you with a memorable and stress-free start to your journey.
Transportation and parking
Japan is renowned for its incredible transport infrastructure, and provision to and from the airport is exceptional. You can choose from a selection of rail, bus, shuttle and even ferry options, with most journeys taking no more than an hour from the centre of the city.
The West Japan Railway Company and Nankai Railways all offer either direct or connecting services to the airport, while buses run from all the major hotels in Osaka directly to the terminals.
Taxis are plentiful and take around 50 minutes, depending on traffic conditions.
Parking is good with two multi-storey car parks at Terminal 1, as well as three additional open air car parks, one opposite Terminal 2. All car parks offer both short and long-term stays.
Arriving in Osaka
Passengers flying from Osaka with Qatar Airways depart from Terminal 1. It is important to check the boards on arrival to determine whether you should check-in at the North or South end of the building. Check at any of the information centres located on the first, second and fourth floors.
Terminal 1 is the longest passenger terminal in the world (1.1miles end to end), but fortunately a people mover system called the Wing Shuttle makes getting around much easier.
Facilities and amenities
Facilities at the airport are exceptionally good. There are plenty of ATMs and a full size bank offering a wide range of financial services is on the second floor in T1.
Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the airport, and there are @Stations offering 24-hour internet access too, as well as mobile phone hire. Food and drink is plentiful, ranging from traditional Japanese dishes such as sushi and sashimi, through to the usual fast food outlets and international cuisine.
A large retail hall provides passengers with everything from clothes, luxury goods and electronics through to Duty Free and travel essentials.
A business centre in Terminal 1 has meeting rooms, secretarial services and telephone, fax and internet provision. Osaka airport is fully accessible, which includes 60 disabled car parking spaces close to the terminal.

Tourist attractions
Most attractions are located in Centrum area, but it’s the Śródmieście district that is rich with museums, galleries and fascinating locations as well as some very photogenic squares. Here you’ll find the Palace of Culture and Science, one of Warsaw’s most recognisable buildings and home to two universities and a theatre, a museum and a concert hall. There are also a number of modern art museums and galleries documenting Poland’s considerable contribution to 20th century art and sculpture.
Slightly outside the centre of the city you’ll find the breathtaking Wilanów Palace, a beautiful and tranquil palace surrounded by landscaped gardens (do take insect repellent with you in the summer, though, as the mosquitoes are in attendance). Further out you’ll come to the Kabacki Forest, a stunning natural wilderness that’s perfect for outdoor pursuits such as hiking and cycling.
Anyone with a love of astronomy should head to the truly fascinating Heavens of Copernicus (Niebo Kopernika), an ultra-modern planetarium that offers year-round events that include sky displays, film projections, lectures and meetings.
