Bangkok: A kaleidoscope for the senses
Book your visit to Bangkok
Visit Bangkok, the vibrant capital of Thailand. This city has it all: sights, sounds, flavours, and ancient traditions blending with modernity. From awe-inspiring temples, lively floating markets, luxurious megamalls, and culinary delights – there is something for everyone to enjoy in Bangkok.
Explore ancient temples such as Wat Arun and Wat Pho and be mesmerised by the giant Reclining Buddha. Cruise along the Chao Phraya River to see the sights from the water, then indulge in delicious mango sticky rice from a bustling street market. With its eclectic mix of new versus old, Bangkok is a city that never fails to inspire.
Things to do in Bangkok
In addition to the Wat Arun and Wat Pho temples, a visit to the iconic Grand Palace should also be on your itinerary. Not only is the Palace’s dazzling architecture a masterpiece to marvel at, but Wat Phra Kaew temple located within its grounds houses the impressive Emerald Buddha – made entirely from jade and dating back to the 12th or 13th century.
To truly experience the liveliness of Bangkok, explore the vibrant neighbourhood of Banglamphu. Stroll down Khao San Road, the centre of it all, where ancient temples and lively markets converge.
If you’d prefer to see the city from above, visit the SkyWalk at King Power Mahanakhon, which stands 78 floors (310m) above the ground. While it may be a hair-raising experience for some, it offers uninterrupted 360-degree views of Bangkok.
Activities in Bangkok
Step away from the bustling city for a moment and take a sunset boat cruise along Chao Phraya River. Witness views of the golden temples and Bangkok’s illuminated skyline from the serenity of the water. Most boats offer candlelit dinner, providing the perfect setting for couples.
A trip to Thailand wouldn’t be complete without a little indulgence. Experience ultimate relaxation and rejuvenation with a traditional Thai massage at one of the many spas scattered across the city. If it’s just your feet that need a little pampering, pop in to one of the street-side foot spas for a rejuvenating foot massage.
For a serene escape from the city buzz, head to the tranquil oasis of Lumpini Park. Unwind in the lush greenery and spot the monitor lizards as they roam free within the parklands.
Food in Bangkok
Graze through an abundance of tastes and flavours at a night market. There are many dotted around Bangkok, bursting with outdoor food stalls and places to socialise. Talat Rot Fai Srinakharin in Northern Bangkok is one of the most popular late-night experiences. Here you can sample fiery curries, aromatic noodle soups and seafood dishes that the city is famous for.
Visit a floating market, such as Damnoen Saduak or Amphawa. Explore the maze-like alleyways of Chinatown, where you can indulge in mouthwatering dishes like savoury dumplings and sweet mango sticky rice. Don’t forget to order a coconut water to wash it all down.
For something a little different, book yourself a Thai cooking class to continue enjoying delicious Thai dishes at home.
Shopping in Bangkok
Head to Chatuchak Weekend Market – a one-of-a-kind shopping experience. This weekend-only market offers everything from local handicrafts and souvenirs, to exotic street food.
Burn some baht at one of Bangkok’s many megamalls, your one-stop-shop for shopping, dining, and exclusive experiences.
Bangkok is also renowned for its tailoring services. If you can’t find what you are looking for in the many malls and markets, visit one of the city’s tailors to see if an item can be specially made for you.
Antiques roadshow, anyone? For vintage shopping, Papaya may be the place to go. This warehouse is filled with 19th and 20th century antiques, from art-deco furniture to VHS players.
