Los Angeles has more than its fair share of iconic landmarks, but the “Hollywood” sign is probably the best known. Dominating the hillside, the sign was constructed in 1923 and has undergone extensive restoration over the years. You can take tours up to the sign, and no trip to Los Angeles is complete without at least one photograph of that distinctive landmark.

The star-studded Hollywood Walk of Fame outside Grauman’s Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard is a must-see attraction. But there’s so much more on offer, including remarkable art collections at the Getty Center, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Museum of Contemporary Art. For concerts and sporting events, head to the Hollywood Bowl and Greek Theatre.

A trip up Mount Hollywood will take you to the Griffith Observatory, built in 1935 and still contributing an important amount of astronomical research today. Griffith Observatory is one of the largest parks in the world, and is home to several attractions, including the Los Angeles Zoo.

Movie buffs can enjoy the big movie studios, which are all around the Los Angeles area. Warner Brothers, Paramount, and Universal Studios all offer tours and are popular attractions for tourists.

Take a trip to Los Angeles and you’ll quickly discover that this city of dreams offers you every conceivable type of leisure activity. Manhattan Beach is a haven for surfers, while the boardwalk at Venice Beach constantly features lively entertainment that guarantees to draw crowds. There are also a thousand and one ways to relax in Los Angeles, thanks to a plethora of massage and spa options.

If you want to escape the relentless pace of life in Los Angeles, then the surrounding countryside is surprisingly beautiful and diverse. A particular favourite is the Mishe Mokwa Trail to Sandstone Peak, a six-mile hike through a red-rock canyon. It also winds through the oak forest at Split Rock and up to Mount Allen, the tallest mountain in the Santa Monica Mountains.

No matter what your culinary taste is, travelling to Los Angeles lets you eat your way around the world! You can find some of the best Chinese food, as well as vegan restaurants populated by movie stars. Gourmet food trucks are a huge hit in Los Angeles, and they serve everything from Korean BBQ tacos to Vietnamese banh mi sandwiches, as well as American style burgers.

Exclusive dining can be found around Wilshire Boulevard and Rodeo Drive, but the sheer diversity of food on offer means that you’ll never run out of restaurants to explore. Closer to the coast you’ll find some excellent seafood restaurants. Sea bass is often on the menu, but also try mahi mahi, a rich, meaty fish that’s very popular in the Pacific Coast.

If you’re looking for an interesting alternative to the usual restaurants, try a luxury meal on board the Queen Mary.

For high-end luxury shopping, there’s probably few places that are more exclusive or more famous than Los Angeles’ Rodeo Drive. Lined with designer boutiques and some of the most expensive jewellery in the world, this is the place to go if your credit card limit is at least six figures! For exclusive, one-off boutique buys, head to Larchmont Boulevard, which has quirky and original outlets.

There are dozens of malls from which to choose. However, for a more authentic Angelino experience, head for Broadway in the Downtown area, or Alvarado Street near Wilshire Boulevard and 6th Street.
