Tourist attractions
One of Zambia’s largest tourist draws is its wildlife, and Lusaka has worked tirelessly to preserve some of the more endangered species native to the country.
The Munda Wanga Environmental Park is at the forefront of the country’s environmental conservation and is renowned for nursing animals and releasing them back into the wild. The park also includes a stunning botanical garden.
The National Museum has a modest exterior, but houses a collection of regional artefacts and artwork that make the visit extremely worthwhile. Alternatively, the Namwandwe Gallery contains one of the finest exhibits of contemporary African art in the city. It is home to the private collection of businessman and entrepreneur John Kapotwe and includes art, sculptures, fabrics and masks created by both established and up-and-coming artists.

Leisure activities
Most of your time in Lusaka could be spent exploring the surrounding game parks and reserves. Parays Game Ranch, about 21 km from the city centre, is home to zebra and kudus, and Chaminuka Lodge is a privately-owned park full of Africa’s most iconic fauna, including antelopes, elephants, giraffes, zebra, lions and hyenas.
If you want to cool off during the hottest part of the day, then head to the Olympic-sized public swimming pool off Nangwenya Road. It is spotlessly clean, well-maintained and has excellent supporting facilities.
For a little cultural experience mixed with some souvenir shopping, head to the Kabwata Cultural Village on Burma Road.
