Flying from Douala
The capital of Cameroon is well served by a bright, efficient and modern airport that has expanded in the last few years to accommodate a growing number of passengers. Flying from Douala with Qatar Airways is a pleasant and hassle-free experience, with friendly, professional staff going out of their way to make the start of your journey one to remember. Douala International Airport is just 10 kilometres from the centre of the city, making it easy to get in and out of this booming African commercial centre.
Transportation and parking
The easiest way to get to the airport from the centre of Douala is by taxi, although it is advisable to ask your hotel reception or concierge service to arrange this for you before you travel. Official taxis are metered, whereas unofficial cabs may be far more expensive and unreliable. Buses run to and from the airport, but they tend to be very crowded and not suitable for travellers with large amounts of luggage. There is very limited parking available at the airport, so it may be advisable to make alternative arrangements for vehicle storage and parking elsewhere.
Arriving at the airport
Passengers flying from Douala with Qatar Airways will depart from the main terminal’s Departures area. The airport is quite small, so it is relatively easy to find your way to the check-in desks without any problems. Allow extra time for baggage checks and check-ins if you are travelling at peak times and during weekends. A lounge for Business and First Class passengers is available, while the public lounge area is comfortable and has some family facilities for mothers and babies.
Facilities and amenities
Facilities are a little limited at the airport, but there are plans to expand both the catering and the retail outlets of the airport in future. Vendors provide light snacks and drinks, and Wi-Fi is available but limited.
