Setting yourself up to do business in Tokyo

As one of the most technologically advanced cities in the world, Tokyo has everything you could possibly need to help you do business.

  • There is free Wi-Fi available in a variety of public locations including coffee shops and restaurants. There are several paid services available around the city as well, including internet cafés.
  • To avoid expensive roaming charges, it could be worthwhile purchasing a pre-paid SIM card when you arrive. These are usually available at the airport and at mobile phone stores and convenience stores.
  • Train and subway are the best way to get around Tokyo as they’re fast and reliable — including Japan’s legendary 300mph Bullet Train. You can also hire executive cars or chauffeur-driven limousines.

Business and financial centres in Tokyo

Within Tokyo, the main business centre can be found at Chiyoda, which is the political centre of the city. Other key centres around the city include Akasaka and Shinbashi in the Minato district, while Shingawa is both a business centre and major transport hub. However, big businesses can be found in most districts of central Tokyo, thanks to the great transport links and proliferation of towering skyscrapers.

Leisure and relaxation in Tokyo

You won’t be short of things to do during your leisure time in Tokyo. Japan has a rich theatre culture with several ancient, traditional forms of drama still going strong today. If you would like to see some of this traditional theatre, visit the National Noh Theatre and Kabuki-za for noh and kabuki theatre respectively.

Sports enthusiasts may well want to take in traditional Japanese sporting events. If so, you can see official Sumo tournaments held at the Ryōgoku Kokugikan Sumo arena — do see what’s on before you travel.

Fine dining and shopping in Tokyo

Tokyo is a shopper’s paradise with shops selling almost anything you can imagine. This, of course, includes luxury fashion, jewellery and cosmetics, which can be found particularly in the Shinjuku district, home to hundreds of shops. The high fashion centre of the city, however, is Ginza - filled with luxury department stores and is worth a visit for some excellent retail opportunities, particularly for high-end electronics.

Tokyo has every kind of cuisine you can think of and has the world’s highest number of Michelin-starred restaurants. Ginza, Akasaka and Roppongi Hills have the biggest spread of high quality eateries.
