Staff are passenger focused and incredibly friendly and helpful, and passengers flying from Trivandrum with Qatar Airways will find this to be a pleasurable and well-organised departure point. Excellent ground facilities and easy transport to and from the airport make it convenient too. 

Transportation and parking

If you are driving to the airport you will find it well signposted and clearly marked on the main routeways. Use the northbound NH66 bypass and look for the dedicated airport sliproad. Buses are plentiful and run every few minutes from the city centre, although be advised that they can be very crowded and difficult to negotiate if you are carrying large or heavy luggage. 

The journey time by bus is around 30 minutes and fares are incredibly cheap. Taxis are a better option, although it is essential that you use an authorised and metred taxi and not an ‘unofficial’ cab. If in doubt, ask your hotel concierge to book one for you. Journey time is approximately 20 minutes, depending on traffic conditions. 

Parking at the airport is limited with around 700 spaces at the international terminal and a further 300 at the domestic terminal.

Arriving in Trivandrum

Passengers flying from Trivandrum with Qatar Airways depart from the International Terminal. During peak travel times the terminal can be incredibly busy, so if you are travelling during these times allow extra time before your flight is due to board to check in and clear customs. Security checks are tight.

Facilities and amenities

In the terminal itself you will find plenty of food and beverage vendors, including chai (tea) sellers and local delicacies. There are also fast food and international cuisine outlets available. 

Shopping is good, with a selection of retail outlets selling luxury goods (look out for particularly good quality leather goods) and accessories. Internet connection is available throughout the terminal, and there is a counter put aside for international telephone calls too.

Tourist attractions

Washington D.C. gathers some of its best attractions in one place, so the National Mall is probably one of the best ways to see Washington’s monuments.

The mall is full of museums and exhibits, with the Lincoln Memorial on one end and Capitol Hill on the other, and encompasses famous monuments, such as the World War II Memorial, Korean War Veterans Memorial, and Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

If you walk south of the mall, you can also find the Tidal Basin, popular during the annual Cherry Blossom Festival each spring. Tours of the White House are incredibly popular but must be booked well in advance.

Washington D.C. is also home to dozens of museums. The Popular Smithsonian museums include the National Museums of National History, National Portrait Gallery, and the National Air and Space Museum. The Spy Museum is perfect for families with children, who will love all the gadgets.
