Goa: India’s coastal haven

Book your visit to Goa

Goa awaits you with its golden sands and crystal-clear waters lapping at your feet. Rainbow-coloured houses peek out from swaying palm trees and life here moves at a slower pace than the rest of India. The essence of Goa is a blend of Indo-Portuguese tradition with laidback, beachside vibes.

Whether you’re exploring the coastal marketplaces, tasting local seafood or losing yourself in the charm of the lush landscapes, Goa’s energy is infectious. Surf the waves by morning, hike the dense jungle in the afternoon and dance under the stars at night. Goa invites you to explore, unwind and savour the beauty of life’s simple pleasures.

Things to do in Goa

Begin with beach-hopping by travelling to Palolem Beach, where the shore is lined with coconut trees and kayaking is a popular choice amongst locals. Come evening, the surrounding areas are filled with energy, from beachside barbecues to live music. Further south, you can find Agonda Beach, which is a top location for dolphin spotting and tranquil boat rides.

For a change of scenery, travel to Dudhsagar Falls, nestled in the Goan jungle. You can hike through the forest or take a jeep ride to reach this natural wonder.

Explore Goa’s cultural history in its capital Panaji. Set off on a walking tour of the impressive Portuguese architecture – a window into the region’s colonial past. While there, stop by Madragoa, a cultural space that showcases Goa’s Indo-Portuguese heritage through live performances of Mando and Fado music.

Activities in Goa

Goa’s coastlines offer incredible surfing spots as well as relaxing beach vibes. After catching some waves, head out on a boat trip to spot dancing dolphins or kayak through backwaters and mangroves.

A visit to Mollem National Park is a journey into Goa’s rich biodiversity. Visit the Flame-throated Bulbul sanctuary, Goa’s state bird, and admire the state tree, the Matti or Indian Laurel.

Goa is alive with greenery and life during the monsoon season, from June to September. If you are lucky enough to be there throughout the season, monsoon festivals fill the streets with music, dance and celebration. If you are visiting outside of monsoon season, head to the submerged village of Curdi as it only re-emerges from the waters once a year.

Food in Goa

When you think of food in Goa, you think of delectable, fresh seafood, seasoned to perfection with different kinds of masala. Fish curry and rice is a popular meal in Goa – it’s a must-try for all visitors. A traditional Goan thali, as locals call it, offers an authentic taste of this coastal enclave. Each bite bursts with the tang of tamarind, the heat of local spices and the freshness of the day’s catch.

Goa’s bustling markets – Mapusa, Panjim and Margao – are the perfect places to buy food souvenirs. Pick up crunchy cashews, freshly baked local bread and irresistible Goan sweets like dodol (a toffee-like, palm sugar-based confectionary) or bebinca (a layer cake).

Shopping in Goa

The iconic Anjuna Market is adorned with colourful stalls set along the coastline, stocked with everything from handcrafted jewellery to flowing boho dresses. As the sun sets, the market buzzes with chatter and the delight of finding items you never knew you needed.

For an evening expedition, make your way to the Arpora Saturday Night Market where you can listen to live music, enjoy street food and wander through stalls of artisanal goods, quirky fashion and vintage pieces.

At the heart of Goan life is the Mapusa Market, where locals come to buy fresh produce, spices and handmade goods. It’s a great destination to pick up home decor or homewares made from unique materials like bamboo and seashells – they’re ideal souvenirs from your Goan adventure.
