Things to do in Helsinki

Start at Senate Square, the epicentre of neoclassical beauty. The square is home to many of the city’s must-see sights, including the Helsinki Cathedral. Its gleaming white façade and towering green domes are a symbol of Helsinki. Next, make your way to the National Library of Finland – an architectural gem, packed with history and fascinating collections.

Food in Helsinki

The classical Old Market Hall is a great place to start. It’s filled with traditional Finnish treats and coastal flavours. Grab a karjalanpiirakka while you’re there – it’s a warm pastry filled with rice porridge or mashed potatoes.

Next, wander over to Kauppatori Salutorget which offers one of Helsinki’s favourite dishes of fish soup. It’s creamy, hearty, and packed with fresh seafood – the perfect comfort food.

Classic Finnish snacks are quite unique. Pickled herring with traditional ruisleipä (rye bread) is a must. And for those with a bold palate, try some salmiakki – Finland’s infamous salty liquorice.
