Scenic Bodrum: Turkey’s coastal gem

Book your visit to Bodrum

A lively destination on Turkey’s Aegean coast, Bodrum is a beautiful blend of sun-soaked beaches, abundant history and contemporary style. Once home to the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus – one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World – it now welcomes visitors to its attractive marina, stylish shops and cobbled lanes. Explore the charming Old Quarter, browse bustling markets or enjoy world-class dining along the promenade. From luxury yachts to fascinating ruins, Bodrum offers an engaging mix of relaxation and discovery for an unforgettable summer holiday.

Things to do in Bodrum

Step back in time at Bodrum Castle, a 15th-century fortress that’s now home to the Museum of Underwater Archaeology and filled with artefacts from shipwrecks off the Aegean coast. Just outside the city, the well-preserved Roman amphitheatre hosts open-air performances during summer – a unique setting for evening entertainment. Follow the road to Gümbet to spot the region’s historic windmills, once part of daily life in Bodrum. Closer to town, the Myndos Gate marks the ancient city entrance and the site of a battle during Alexander the Great’s siege of Halicarnassus.

Activities in Bodrum

Bodrum’s beaches are a natural highlight, with clear waters, nearby restaurants and water sports for all ages. The stretch between the castle and Halikarnas is excellent for swimming, and features plenty of free loungers and beachside cafés. Hire a boat from the marina to explore the coast, or visit Vass for windsurfing and a relaxed, bohemian atmosphere. Diving is popular too, with PADI-certified schools offering guided sessions. For something a little different, take a bus to Camel Beach – a peaceful spot where you can go for an exhilarating camel ride along the shore.

Food in Bodrum

Bodrum’s dining scene offers something for everyone – from upscale restaurants to welcoming family-run taverns. For a true taste of the region, try Çökertme kebab – crisp matchstick potatoes topped with tender lamb or beef, finished with garlic yoghurt and tomato sauce. Local menus often feature seasonal vegetables, including delicately stuffed zucchini flowers. With its coastal location, Bodrum is known for fresh seafood dishes. Red mullet, sea bass and bream are popular, while lobster, octopus and crab are prepared simply with lemon and herbs.

Shopping in Bodrum

Bodrum offers a diverse shopping scene, from bustling bazaars to elegant marinas and modern malls. In the city centre, browse markets and boutiques for handmade leather sandals, wood carvings, and the region’s famous mandarin jam. Bodrum Bazaar, stretching from the castle to the seafront, is ideal for souvenirs and local crafts. For high-end shopping, head to the designer boutiques at Yalıkavak and Bodrum marinas, where jewellery, art and fashion are on display. Prefer air-conditioned comfort?
