Qatar Airways is committed to minimising waste and recovering materials for other purposes, while applying the principles of a circular economy across our businesses. Our efforts span all stages of our operations, including reducing single-use plastic, food waste, water conservation, as well as recycling materials and much more.

Reducing single-use plastic

Qatar Airways' Quisine on-board dining experience has increased the use of recyclable and biodegradable products by 80%.

Say goodbye to single-use plastics and hello to silverware cutlery and natural wooden stirrers for your hot beverages.

Recycling materials

Each year, the catering department at Hamad International Airport, Qatar Airways' hub, recycles over 1,000 tons of packaging materials, 52 tons of magazines, and 5,000 gallons of cooking oil.

Additionally, green waste from landscaping is composted and used to improve the soil, thus reducing reliance on chemical fertilisers.

Reducing food waste

QACC collaborates with local Qatari charity, Hifz Al Naema, to redistribute surplus food and beverages to good causes in Qatar.

Together, they redistribute 200-300kg of food and beverages, such as whole fruits and cereals, every day.

Water conservation

Qatar Airways is first airline in the world to adopt the innovative '360 Foam Wash’ system by General Electric, dramatically reducing water usage during engine cleaning. Corporate buildings are also embracing smart water solutions by implementing sensor taps with built-in motion detection and the use of condensate water from air conditioners in cleaning activities. At Hamad International Airport, recycled wastewater is used for irrigation.
