Tourist attractions
As an island, fishing is central to the culture of the local people. The AC's Phuket Fishing Park allows visitors to go fishing for arapaimas, red-tailed catfish, alligator gars, and Siamese giant carp. If you prefer to watch wildlife rather than catch it then a visit to the Chana Charoen Road Crocodile Farm is an exhilarating experience.
Thailand’s Buddhist temples and statues are spectacular, and none more so than the Big Buddha, a white marble statue on the top of Naka Kerd Mountain, where you can also get a fabulous, bird’s eye view over Phuket’s east coast. Another great spot to see those extraordinary sunsets is Prom Thep Cape, 1.5 miles from Rawai Beach.
For something a little more unusual (and truly mind-boggling), try the Phuket Trick Eye Museum, a gallery of 3D paintings and optical illusions. Siam Niramit Phuket Arts Theatre puts on fascinating plays and performances that immerse visitors in the local culture, or check out the truly bizarre Baan Teelanka & A-Maze-in-Phuke, a house that has been built completely upside down and with a garden maze that will keep the kids amused for hours.
