Flying from Manila (MNL)
The Philippines is one of the Pacific’s fastest growing economies, as well as being a popular tourist destination for travellers with a taste for more exotic locations. Ninoy Aquino International Airport is its primary access and exit point, and is a bustling, busy air hub serving hundreds of major destinations all over the globe.
Passengers flying from Manila with Qatar Airways will remember this departure point as one of the most energetic, vibrant and colourful on their travels, as well as one of the friendliest.
Transportation and parking
The airport is well served by public transport. Fleets of buses run regularly from Manila and other locations to the airport, and it is also served by the extraordinarily bright and garish jeepney, which are an iconic part of Filipino life. Jeepneys run from Parañaque and Pasay.
Baclaran station of the Manila LRT Line 1 and Nichols station of the Philippine National Railways both serve the airport and are connected to the main terminals by shuttle buses. Taxis and limousine services are plentiful. Short-term parking is available in front of Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.
Long-term parking is available in front of the Domestic terminal, with a free shuttle connecting to the terminals.
Arriving at Ninoy Aquino International Airport
Passengers flying from Manila with Qatar Airways will depart from Terminal 3, the international departure terminal.
The recently renovated terminal has better facilities now than previously, and there are a number of lounges for business class and first class passengers. Because the airport is so busy it is best to arrive at least two hours before your flight is due to depart.
Amenities and facilities
Facilities and amenities are being improved throughout the airport, and in Terminal 3 concessions include banking and ATM machines, a selection of retail outlets selling accessories and some luxury goods, and a duty free shop located on the north wing of the departures level.
A selection of on-the-go food and drinks are available from vendors throughout the terminal, and several restaurants offer more substantial menus.
Arriving in Rome
If you want to experience everything that Rome has to offer but want a little bit of individuality thrown into the mix, book a flight to Fiumicino with Qatar Airways and discover an often-overlooked part of this beautiful region. Originally a simple fishing village just a few miles from the historic capital, Fiumicino is today an attractive destination loved by locals and travellers in the know.
A much more tranquil and sedate pace of life lulls you into a relaxed state of mind, and if you want the vibrancy and energy of Rome then it’s only a short drive away. But there is plenty in this pretty location to keep you interested and amused.
Tourist attractions
The biggest attraction in the area is the ancient Roman settlement of Ostia Antica, the historic ancestor of the modern town. This bay area at the mouth of the Tiger river is picturesque and a haven for wildlife, making it a serene change from the usual tourist destinations.
One of the more unusual attractions is a small mud volcano that popped into existence on the Coccia di Morto roundabout in 2013! Although currently dormant, local geologists (and road cleaners) are keeping a careful eye on it just in case it becomes active again.
Shopping in Fiumicino is surprisingly good, and if you don’t want to fight through the crowds in nearby Rome then there is plenty to buy in the new Malo Moda mall or the smaller boutiques in the town itself. The main ingredient to any trip to Fiumicino is relaxation – a visit to this location is a welcome change from the frenetic pace of life in nearby Rome.
