Things to do in Seoul
Step back in time at Changdeokgung, a Joseon dynasty palace with majestic halls and grand architecture. The Secret Garden inside reveals lush greenery and ponds. Once frequented by royals of the past, they’re now an oasis in the heart of Seoul. However, Changdeokgung is just one of the Five Grand Palaces. Explore them all to learn more about Korea’s royal past.
For a 360-degree view of the city, head to N Seoul Tower, perched at the top of Namsan Mountain. As you take in the breathtaking views, equally beautiful by day and night, don’t forget to leave your mark by adding a ‘lock of love’ to the tower’s fences.
Take a day trip from the city to the Korean Folk Village. This living museum presents a glimpse into Korean life during the Joseon dynasty, complete with costumed actors and traditional buildings.

Activities in Seoul
Enjoy a short hike at the Naksan Section of the Seoul City Wall Trail. An ancient fortress wall, it stretches an impressive 18.6 kilometres in length and encircles the center of the city. While there, enjoy panoramic views of contemporary Seoul while admiring the rugged charm of stone battlements. All six sections of the trail narrate a different story, whether you are climbing forested hills or skirting urban landscapes.
Enjoy a slice of Korean life in Bukchon Hanok Village. Book a stay at a traditional Korean house, or hanok, where their wooden frames, tiled roofs and heated floors provide a perfect blend of heritage and comfort. Relax in a cosy room on floor beds, as you gaze out at a peaceful courtyard garden. A hanok is not just an accommodation, it’s a journey into the heart of Korean culture.

Food in Seoul
Wander through the streets of Insadong to discover tranquil tea houses. Visit Museum Kimchikan to learn about and sample some kimchi (spicy fermented napa cabbage) – the cornerstone of Korean cuisine. If you’re feeling less adventurous, try it in pancake form – kimchi jeon.
Head to Gwangjang or Namdaemun Market to discover the unique flavours of Korea. Give tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) a try. The fiery kick of the sauce softened by rice cakes’ chewy texture is a dish loved by all ages. For a sweet treat, indulge in a bowl of bingsu – finely shaved ice, with sweet red beans or fruits.
Don’t leave Seoul without trying Korean barbecue. Grill your meat of choice and enjoy it with the many free side dishes, or banchan, that you can refill to your heart’s content. It’s an unforgettable experience.

Shopping in Seoul
Hanbok is the traditional Korean dress. The intricacy of its elegant design with beautiful embroidery and colours is steeped in history. Purchase your own as a keepsake or opt to rent one at the many shops around Gyeongbokgung or Bukchon. Plus, you’ll be able to visit the major palaces for free if you’re wearing one!
Korea is famous for its skincare and Myeongdong’s streets are lined with stores that sell the best skincare and cosmetic brands the country has to offer. For high-end fashion and luxury shopping, head to Apgujeong in Gangnam. For more affordable high-street fashion, visit Hongdae, which is popular among students.
