Copenhagen: Experience Scandinavian charm at its best

Book your visit to Copenhagen

Explore Copenhagen, one of the world’s greenest cities. Why drive when you can cycle? Copenhagen boasts 546 kilometres of bicycle paths, limitless eco-friendly hotels and a food culture fueled by sustainable dining. This chic yet quaint city has just as many cultural sites to discover as it has culinary delights to indulge in. Imagine exploring ancient castles and the birthplace of fairytales, shopping for the latest Scandi fashion, and taking your taste buds on a modern-day culinary adventure. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or returning traveller, Copenhagen is always a good idea.

Things to do in Copenhagen

The castles and palaces to be found in Copenhagen are like something out of a fairytale. Visit the Amalienborg Palace to see where the Danish royal family live and watch the changing of the guard. For another royal excursion, make your way to Kronborg Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Best known as Elsinore in Shakespeare’s Hamlet, this fortress exudes a sense of grandeur and mystery.

Get a unique view of Copenhagen by climbing the spiral ramp of The Round Tower. With sweeping views of Copenhagen’s rooftops and spires, it’s the perfect spot to take in the city’s beauty. Don’t miss out on paying a visit to The Little Mermaid, Copenhagen’s beloved bronze icon. Perched by the water, this famous statue embodies the city and was inspired by the fairy tale written by Danish author Hans Christian Anderson.

Activities in Copenhagen

Venture to the world’s oldest amusement park, Bakken, where the echoes of excitement have been bountiful since 1583. Located in the woodlands, the park consists of historic rides in a magical setting and makes for a great day out for the whole family.

Visit Glyptoteket, a haven for art lovers. Classical sculptures stand alongside modern masterpieces in its beautiful ‘Winter Garden’. To learn more about Denmark’s past, head to the National Museum, where exhibits showcase Viking treasures, medieval artefacts, and cultural relics.

A walk around Copenhagen is an experience in itself. The city’s streets are lined with colourful townhouses, cosy cafés, and discrete courtyards. Stroll through King’s Garden, an urban oasis consisting of sculptures, floral gardens and manicured lawns ideal for picnics.

Food in Copenhagen

Nørrebeo neighbourhood is known for its diverse culinary scene, with the streets around Jaegersborggade housing a plethora of eclectic eateries. Tuck into everything from Michelin-star cuisine, to authentic Nordic cuisine – think pickled vegetables, smoked fish, and foraged herbs, all presented with an artistic flair.

A must-try is smørrebrød, Denmark’s famous open-faced sandwich. This simple yet sophisticated sandwich consists of rye bread topped with anything from pickled herring to roast beef, and garnished with fresh dill or crispy onions.

Another street food staple is a Danish hot dog – served in a soft bun with remoulade, crispy onions, and pickles. To satisfy your sweet tooth, nothing beats a freshly made Danish pastry – a buttery, flaky treat filled with custard, jam, or marzipan.

Shopping in Copenhagen

For your shopping fix, stroll down the famous Strøget Street. One of Europe’s longest pedestrian streets, you’ll find plenty of luxury brands, high street fashion, cafés and even street performers.

Another pedestrian shopping street is Købmagergade. Here you’ll find traditional Danish designs alongside contemporary fashion, and is the kind of place where you’re bound to find one-of-a-kind pieces. Nearby, Pilestræde beckons with its boutiques and hidden gems, offering everything from tasteful jewellery to chic Scandinavian home décor.

Known for its creativity and diversity, Vesterbro is a hip and happening neighbourhood. The main street, Istegade, is packed with edgy boutiques, restaurants and bespoke shops that guarantee authentic finds.
