Thanks to it being located near the sea, fish is a staple in Kuwaiti cuisine. A classic fish dish is mutabbaq samak, made from zubaidi (a silver pomfret fish that’s abundant in the sea around Kuwait) and served with rice cooked in a well-seasoned fish stock.

No visit to Kuwait is complete without trying machboos, the nation’s signature dish of spiced rice and tender meat. Finish your meal with some sweet delicacies that the city is famous for, including syrup-soaked doughnut balls (luqaimat) or a spiced wheat flour pudding served with ghee and walnuts (asida).

Street food enthusiasts can’t miss out on a juicy shawarma, where marinated meat is grilled and wrapped in soft bread. It’s often served with a side of garlic sauce and pickles, too. In Kuwait, every bite tells a story that will leave you craving more.

Shopping in Kuwait

Your shopping journey should start at Souk Al-Mubarakiya, where the winding alleys and local bazaars overflow with treasures. Browse through stalls selling beautiful carpets, woven with patterns that tell stories of Turkish and Egyptian craftsmanship. There are piles of rare spices on offer and perfumes to smell, each bottle offering a unique Middle Eastern fragrance. 

There’s lots of hand-carved wood to admire too, from furniture pieces to delicate trinkets that make great souvenirs.

Head to the marina to discover the modern Kuwait City. You'll find yourself in a stylish shopping destination where high-end boutiques meet stunning seaside views. Shop for fashion, dine in chic cafés and enjoy the lively atmosphere. Then visit one of the biggest malls in the GCC along Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan road for a vast array of shopping, dining and entertainment experiences.
