Oslo: Norway’s urban playground
Book your visit to Oslo
Oslo, Norway’s cosmopolitan capital and largest port, attracts adventurers and city dwellers alike. With a delightful mix of urban life and nature, the city is a breath of fresh air and the world’s greenest city. Stroll through lively streets, where designer boutiques are a stone’s throw away from lush forests and majestic waterways.
This historic yet artsy city has no shortage of museums and trendy neighbourhoods waiting to be explored. It’s also the perfect base to discover the majestic fjords from. Whether it’s a forest hike, boat trip, or sauna dip, Oslo will keep you coming back for more.
A city that is proud of its heritage but also embraces innovation, Oslo allows you to experience both modernity and Scandinavian charm.

Things to do in Oslo
The medieval stronghold, Akershus Fortress, overlooks the Oslofjord and transports you back in time. Walking along its ancient walls, one can imagine knights and battles from centuries ago. The Rose Castle – an outdoor installation commemorating Norway’s resistance during World War II – offers a more modern take on history.
For a touch of art, head to Ekebergparken Sculpture Park, where contemporary sculptures blend in with the surrounding greenery.
Oslo has more than 50 museums to explore. Start with the Polar Exploration Museum, where tales of brave explorers like Roald Mundsen come to life. To learn about Norway’s past, browse the Norwegian Museum of Cultural History. And don’t miss MUNCH, an iconic museum dedicated to the famous Norwegian painter, Edvard Munch.

Activities in Oslo
Pamper yourself at one of the traditional Norwegian saunas scattered along the harbor promenade, where you can sweat it out with some amazing views of the fjord. As the sun sets, the harbour turns into a buzzing hub, with plenty of restaurants and cafés waiting to be discovered.
Up for more adventure? Dive into the public seawater pool in trendy Sørenga. There’s something special about swimming in the middle of the city, with Oslo’s stunning skyline as your background.
If you are visiting in summer and looking for a beach day, the Bygdøy peninsula is the place to be. Pack a picnic, hike the trails, or simply unwind.

Food in Oslo
Nordic flavours are unlike any other, with the earthy taste of Norway’s wild environment woven throughout dishes. Sample unique meats like reindeer, or succulent lamb. For those bold enough, try lutefisk, a stockfish that has been soaked in water, placed in lye, then soaked in water again. You might be able to find this bespoke snack in Oslo’s Mathallen indoor food market.
Røkelaks is another famed meal in Oslo, otherwise known as smoked salmon. The harbour is the best place to go as the quality here is top-notch. There’s nothing quite like fresh Norwegian salmon.
Brunost, sweet brown cheese on bread, is the ideal meal to enjoy during kveldsmat, which is essentially a second dinner or an evening meal. Explore the streets of Grünerløkka for kveldsmat – this hip neighbourhood is brimming with delectable finds.

Shopping in Oslo
The bustling main street of Karl Johans Gate is lined with everything from luxurious stores to quirky local boutiques. It’s the shopping hub for the latest fashion finds as well as Norwegian souvenirs. Look for something Viking-inspired for a typical Norwegian memento.
The waterfront shopping district, Aker Brygge, is another top location for stylish shops featuring Nordic designs. Keep an eye out for sleek homeware, minimalist clothing, and Scandinavian knick-knacks.
For something more upscale, head to Bogstadveien, Oslo’s premier shopping street – home to high-end stores and well-known designer brands.
