Sharjah: Where coast meets culture
Book your visit to Sharjah
Sharjah has earned the title of UNESCO Cultural Capital of the Arab Region. It’s a place where every effort has been made to preserve Emirati history. Wander through the colourful souks, marvel at the old architecture and explore the archeological sites. Sharjah is also home to sleek waterfronts, contemporary galleries and cultural spaces.
Whether you tour the coffee shops of Sharjah tasting local delicacies, manoeuvre through untamed deserts, or simply unwind by the sea – there’s so much to enjoy in this unique city in the United Arab Emirates.

Things to do in Sharjah
Take a trip to the Mleiha Archaeological Centre, located in the deserts of Sharjah, where you can learn about ancient Bedouin culture in the region. For those seeking a thrill, there are plenty of recreational activities for you to take part in. You may even spot an oryx on your adventure.
Visit the Sharjah Art Museum, where modern artworks and old-age masterpieces are housed.
For a slice of serenity, stroll along the Buhaira Corniche, revealing panoramic views of the city-side lagoon. While there, visit Al Noor Island, which has the dreamlike Butterfly House in its centre.
Sharjah is a prime location for a beach getaway and it’s certainly not short of beautiful shores – one of the best being Khorfakkan Beach. It boasts crystal clear waters and excellent conditions for swimming, snorkelling and even fishing.

Activities in Sharjah
Trek or kayak through the Khor Kalba Mangroves, abundant with rare bird species, crabs and sea turtles. For more wildlife encounters, visit Arabia’s Wildlife Centre in Sharjah Desert Park. The diverse fauna of the Arabian Peninsula are on full display in their natural habitats.
For a unique experience that epitomises the ingenuity of the United Arab Emirates, step into the Rain Room. You can walk through a downpour without getting wet – it’s an artistic, sensory journey.
Travel a few hours North to set sail on a Musandam Dibba boat tour in a traditional-style dhow, where the dramatic fjords of the Arabian Peninsula meet turquoise waters. As you sail along, watch dolphins dance beside your boat and take a plunge in the refreshing waters.

Food in Sharjah
Coffee is a rite of passage in most of the United Arab Emirates, and Sharjah is no different. Relax in one of the many coffee shops throughout the city where you can savour a cup of strong Arabic coffee, spiced with cardamom and paired with sweet, succulent dates.
Craving something more substantial? Sink your teeth into a shawarma, Sharjah’s beloved street food. Tender, spiced meat is slow-cooked on a rotisserie and wrapped in soft bread with a healthy dollop of garlic sauce, pickles and crisp vegetables.
For something more refined, dine at one of the many Middle Eastern restaurants. From creamy hummus to grilled lamb and aromatic rice, every bite is packed with flavour. Don’t miss out on a visit to Souk Al Jubail, a bustling market brimming with fresh produce, seafood and spices.

Shopping in Sharjah
The Central Souk, otherwise known as the Blue Souk – because of its blue tile-trimmed exterior – houses an array of treasures. Sift through stalls of handcrafted jewellery, intricate carpets and authentic Arab garments for a taste of old Arabia.
For a deeper sense of history, Souk Al Arsah is one of the oldest marketplaces the United Arab Emirates. With its ancient walls and wooden doors, this souk exudes timeless charm. Look for antiques, pearls and homemade souvenirs.
Sharjah’s modern side shines through its malls, with many to choose from. You can shop for global brands, local designers and everything in between.
