Book flights from Colombo to Berlin with Qatar Airways

Book a flight from Colombo to Berlin with Qatar Airways and travel in comfort and style the next time you fly to the German capital. Spacious seating allows you to sit back and relax, with plenty of extra legroom. Enjoy award-winning cuisine brought to you by an attentive cabin crew who will look after your every need to help you arrive refreshed and renewed in Berlin, ready to do business or discover the cultural delights of this diverse city.

Berlin’s often turbulent history goes back to its founding in the 13th century, and memorials like graffiti on what remains of the Berlin Wall and the 18th century Brandenburg Gate are reminders of the city’s notable past. Today, Berlin stands as a thoroughly modern city, with a cosmopolitan population and a thriving modern art scene. Enjoy the relaxing café society and visit galleries and museums like the National Gallery and Bode Museum, conveniently clustered together on Museum Island.

Arriving in Tegel, Berlin

One of Berlin’s 96 districts, Tegel is best known as the location for Berlin’s main international airport. Flights to Berlin with Qatar Airways arrive here, opening up the heart of Germany to visitors.

Journey a little further into Berlin and you’ll quickly discover that this city is a patchwork of individual districts, each with their own very distinctive personality. While Tegel is relatively relaxed and laid back, the centre of Berlin is vibrant and energetic, with a wealth of cultural entertainment, unique attractions and a very warm German welcome.

Tourist attractions

In Tegel itself you’ll find the rather fine Tegel Palace (also known as Humboldt Palace), originally a 16th century hunting lodge that has also gone through various transformations including some time as a sanatorium. Tegel has plenty of natural beauty of its own too, including Lake Tegel and Berlin’s oldest tree, the wonderfully named ‘Fat Maria’.

Once you head a little further into Berlin itself you have a greater selection of monuments and attractions to explore. From the iconic Brandenburg Gate in the centre of the city, to the poignant Berlin Wall memorial, Berlin is awash with modern and classical attractions.

It also has a huge number of museums and galleries, with the Pergamon-Museum, Altes Museum and the Bode-Museum all clustered in one small area. Another group of museums and cultural buildings can be found at Kulturforum, close to Potsdamer Platz. Because there are so many excellent museums in the city, the best way to get the most from your trip is to buy a museum pass, which will give you access to most of them.

Travel Considerations

Flights to Berlin with Qatar Airways land at Berlin Tegel Airport. Visa restrictions for entry into the country will depend on your country of origin, length of stay and whether your trip is for business or pleasure. Before you fly to Berlin please check the visa and passport requirements.

Flying from Colombo

Bandaranaike International Airport is the largest airport in Sri Lanka and serves Colombo, the country’s capital. This modern, efficient airport is named after former Prime Minister SWRD Bandaranaike, and is one of the busiest air travel hubs in South Asia.

Passengers flying from Colombo with Qatar Airways will experience a fast, friendly and efficient service, with the emphasis placed firmly on the passenger experience. As is traditional in Sri Lankan culture, courtesy and respect are paramount, and the friendly staff go out of their way to make your departure a smooth and pleasant one.

Transportation and parking

Airport shuttles run from most hotels in the city centre to the main bus terminal 500m from the Terminal building itself, but it is advisable to check in advance on availability. If you have a large amount of luggage then it is probably wiser to take a taxi. Air conditioned cabs are often more expensive than non-air conditioned vehicles, which can be an issue in the summer heat.

There are two parking areas available for short and long-term stays. The terminal car park has space for 400 vehicles on short-term stays, while the remote car park, about 300m from the terminal is for long-term parking.

Arriving in Colombo

Passengers flying from Colombo with Qatar Airways depart from Terminal 1. Currently, this terminal is used for all international flights until the opening of Terminal 2 in 2017.  The terminal can get very busy, especially at peak travel times, so it is advisable to arrive at least two hours in advance.

Facilities and amenities

Facilities are good if a little limited, although business users are surprisingly well catered for. A business centre is located in the transit hall on the ground floor, providing international direct dialling, fax and photocopying services.

There are also four business and first-class lounges, although Wi-Fi access is limited. Vendors serving local and international cuisine are located in the Departures area and the transit lounge, and a selection of snack bars offer light refreshments and drinks. Retail outlets provide a choice of good quality goods and accessories.
