Book flights from Tunis to Muscat with Qatar Airways

On flights from Tunis to Muscat with Qatar Airways, enjoy the highest levels of comfort and luxury, starting from the moment you step on board all the way through landing. Sit back and relax in spacious seating, and dine on a menu of award-winning cuisine while a highly attentive cabin crew looks after your requests.

With views across the Gulf of Oman, and surrounded by mountains and desert, Muscat has a particularly dramatic location. It’s off the average tourist’s beaten track and home to many hidden jewels such as the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, and three perfectly preserved 16th century hilltop forts from the colonial era. The main venue for the arts here is Muscat’s Royal Opera House, and the Muscat Gate Museum is a showcase for the country’s historic achievements and conflicts.

Flying from Tunis

Tunis–Carthage Airport serves the Tunisian city of Carthage and the capital itself, Tunis. It is located a few miles east of Carthage, and is well served by public transport.

Modern, efficient and friendly, passengers flying from Tunis with Qatar Airways will find this spacious airport a pleasant departure point, with the emphasis placed firmly on delivering the best possible passenger experience. Staff are helpful and professional, and facilities are good.

Transportation and parking

Although no train service runs directly to the airport (the confusingly named L'Aéroport station on the TGM suburban rail line is actually some miles from the airport itself), there are plenty of buses and taxis available. Local bus 35 runs to and from the city and Tunis Marine train station, and takes approximately 30 minutes.

Look for yellow metred taxis, which are plentiful in the city and can also be pre-booked by your hotel concierge.

Avoid unofficial and unmetred taxis or taxi touts. Journey time by taxi from the city to the airport is approximately 20 minutes.

Airport parking is good, with 2,500 spaces available in the main parking area and a further 500 spaces outside Terminal 2.

Arriving in Tunis

Passengers flying from Tunis with Qatar Airways depart from the main terminal Departures area. The airport is popular with holidaymakers and can be particularly busy during peak tourist season.

Security has also been tightened considerably recently, so it is advisable to arrive at least two hours before your flight is due to depart to check in and clear security and customs checks.

Facilities and amenities

Free Wi-Fi is available in some restaurants on-site, and mobile phone hire is also on offer if you suddenly find your phone has a flat battery. As local currency has to be exchanged within Tunisia, you will find currency kiosks and ATM machines throughout the terminal – remember to convert your currency before you leave.

Duty Free shopping is available in the Departure lounge, as well as a selection of retail outlets selling accessories and luxury goods. A food court offers local delicacies, snacks, drinks and more substantial international cuisine and meals.

There is a VIP lounge in the Departures area, although there are no conference or business facilities at the airport.

Arriving in Muscat

Muscat, Oman’s capital, is actually a fusion of three individual towns. Muscat itself is the "walled city", and the site of the royal palaces, while Matrah (Matruh), which was originally a fishing village and is now the location of the remarkable Matrah Souq. The third part of this complex location is Ruwi, the commercial and diplomatic centre of the city.

Book a flight to Muscat with Qatar Airways and you’ll discover a remarkable city that offers both tourists and business visitors a warm welcome. A blend of traditional values and a modern, forward-thinking city makes this an eclectic destination full of intrigue and mystery.

Tourist attractions

Al Jalali Fort and Al Mirani fort in Qasr Al Alam Street are magnificent, imposing structures that are well worth a photo opportunity. The forts were built as prisons in 1580 and are now museums. These two citadels stand guard over Qasr Al Alam Royal Palace, which although not open to the public is still worth seeing from the outside.

The Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque is the third-largest mosque in the world, and a truly special place of contemplation and devotion. It’s also home to some spectacular artefacts, including a dazzling Swarovski crystal chandelier, and the second largest hand made Persian carpet in the world.

Muscat has plenty of open spaces too, and one in particular is popular with visitors. The Qurum National Park is also known as the Rose Gardens, and has spectacular displays of fragrant blooms all year round, as well as a man-made waterfall and lake.

A journey of 100km will bring you to Wadi Shab, a journey that is well worth making to see this natural wonder. Emerald green pools and dramatic caves make this an unexpected and beautiful excursion from the hustle and bustle of Muscat city.
