Book flights from Johannesburg to Phuket with Qatar Airways

Comfort and luxury come together to create an unforgettable passenger experience on flights from Johannesburg to Phuket with Qatar Airways. In addition to the comfort afforded by our spacious seating, which allows you that crucial extra legroom, enjoy the very best food from a menu of award-winning cuisine and the dedicated attention of our cabin crew.

Phuket has a lovely location in the Andaman Sea and boasts many of the very finest sandy beaches in Thailand. With tropical rainforests and mountains in the interior, the island is a popular destination with hikers and climbers, and the clear waters of Phuket’s western shore in particular attract divers from around the world. You’ll find many high-end restaurants and luxury spas here, and a lively night scene can be found in the main resort town of Phatong.

Flying from Johannesburg

The Rainbow Nation’s capital is served by Johannesburg International Airport – an airport with a reputation for excellence. Also known as OR Tambo International Airport, it is named after Oliver Reginald Tambo, a leading anti-apartheid politician.

The airport, despite being the largest in South Africa, is friendly and efficient, offering visitors a pleasant and smooth departure point. Passengers flying from Johannesburg with Qatar Airways will find the process to be smooth, professional and quick, making the airport a great departure point for both business and leisure travellers.

Transportation and parking

Public transport to and from the airport is excellent. The high-speed Gautrain runs between the airport, Malboro and Sandton and takes between 10-15 minutes. The Magic Bus operates regular services to and from Sun City and other major locations in the city. The airport Shuttle services Airport Link and EZ Shuttle provide door-to-door shuttle services from city destinations to the airport.

Official taxis operate from key locations in the city, with a journey time of approximately 30 minutes to the airport, depending on departure point and the traffic conditions (be aware that early morning and evening rush hour traffic in the city can be very congested, so if you are travelling during this period allow extra time for your journey).

There are plenty of car parks offering both short and long-term parking around the airport, including an underground facility as well as outdoor and covered areas. Bus links are available from the furthest car parks to the terminal.

Arriving at Johannesburg

Passengers flying from Johannesburg with Qatar Airways will depart from Terminal A. It is important to ensure that you arrive at the correct terminal, as there are currently six in operation at the airport.

Terminals A1 and A2 are for International passengers. Because of the size of the airport, it is important to allow plenty of time before your plane is due to depart, so ensure you arrive at the terminal at least two hours before your flight is due to depart.

Facilities and amenities

The airport has exceptionally good facilities, ranging from a large retail area and food court to conference and business facilities. Wireless internet access is available in international departure areas, and there is also an on-site post office and mobile phone hire available.

Food outlets include cafés and juice bars, steak houses and fast food restaurants, and a wide-ranging retail sector includes everything from travel accessories and luxury goods through to jewellery, clothing and Duty Free.

Arriving in Phuket

Phuket is actually Thailand’s largest island, and is a hugely popular destination for adventure tourists and travellers wishing to discover more about this enigmatic country. A tropical paradise blended with a vibrant and energetic metropolis, it is also a big draw for entrepreneurs and business travellers, thanks to a burgeoning high-tech sector.

Book a flight to Phuket with Qatar Airways and discover the gateway to Thailand. Famous for its flowers and the warm, friendly welcome visitors receive from its inhabitants, there is also plenty to see and do in Phuket. It is little wonder that Phuket is usually in the top ten of must-see destinations around the world.

Tourist attractions

As an island, fishing is central to the culture of the local people. The AC's Phuket Fishing Park allows visitors to go fishing for arapaimas, red-tailed catfish, alligator gars, and Siamese giant carp. If you prefer to watch wildlife rather than catch it then a visit to the Chana Charoen Road Crocodile Farm is an exhilarating experience.

Thailand’s Buddhist temples and statues are spectacular, and none more so than the Big Buddha, a white marble statue on the top of Naka Kerd Mountain, where you can also get a fabulous, bird’s eye view over Phuket’s east coast. Another great spot to see those extraordinary sunsets is Prom Thep Cape, 1.5 miles from Rawai Beach.

For something a little more unusual (and truly mind-boggling), try the Phuket Trick Eye Museum, a gallery of 3D paintings and optical illusions. Siam Niramit Phuket Arts Theatre puts on fascinating plays and performances that immerse visitors in the local culture, or check out the truly bizarre Baan Teelanka & A-Maze-in-Phuke, a house that has been built completely upside down and with a garden maze that will keep the kids amused for hours.

Travel Considerations

Flights to Phuket with Qatar Airways land at Phuket International Airport, in the north of Phuket Island. Visa restrictions for entry into the country will depend on your country of origin, length of stay and whether your trip is for business or pleasure. Before you fly to Phuket please check the visa and passport requirements.
