Book flights from Sulaimaniyah to Shanghai with Qatar Airways and experience the very best in comfortable, luxurious air travel. Choose delicious dishes from an award-winning menu during your journey, and stretch out in seats that provide you with the space and comfort you need to enjoy your flight from start to finish. Meanwhile, our dedicated cabin crew will take care of your every need.

As China’s largest metropolis and a global financial hub, Shanghai is guaranteed to be an exciting city to visit at any time of year. You can still see its humble colonial beginnings in the lovingly restored 19th century buildings that line the Bund, a famous promenade along the waterfront. The modern financial heart of the city is now at Pudong, across the Huangpu River, where you’ll find landmarks like the Shanghai Tower and Oriental Pearl TV Tower. Old Shanghai is best see in Yu Garden, an open space with attractive pavilions and ponds.

Flying from Sulaymaniyah

One of Iraq’s lesser known regions, Sulaimaniyah is an historic location surrounded by stunning mountains and beautiful scenery. It has been home for thousands of years to some of the country’s greatest poets, writers, historians, politicians, scholars and singers.

Today, it is growing into a thriving city that welcomes entrepreneurs, business travellers and tourists alike. Passengers flying from Sulaymaniyah with Qatar Airways will find Sulaymaniyah International Airport to be friendly and efficient, with a real emphasis on the passenger experience.

Transportation and parking

The most practical way to get to the airport, which lies approximately 15 kilometres away from the city centre, is by taxi. Official metered cabs can be booked by your hotel concierge, and it is advisable to make your travel arrangements to and from the airport via your hotel reception desk.

Parking at the airport is limited, so it is best to make alternative arrangements for your vehicle.

Arriving at Sulaymaniyah

Passengers flying from Sulaymaniyah depart from the Departures terminal. Check-in and customs checks are relatively quick. However, security is exceptionally tight at the airport.

Allow at least two hours before your flight is due to board, and ensure that all your paperwork is in order before you arrive at the airport.

Facilities and amenities

While amenities at the airport are limited, they are adequate for most traveller’s needs. A café serves a mix of local dishes and international cuisine as well as light snacks.

A mosque is available for devotions, and comfortable seating is provided for all passengers waiting to board their flights.

A currency exchange office provides basic banking and currency services, while a small shop sells travel essentials, books and magazines. There is also a medical room on-site, as well as mother-and-baby changing facilities.

Arriving in Shanghai

There’s one word that describes Shanghai – huge. Home to more than 23million people, this vast city is the largest in mainland China and one of the world’s most prosperous metropolitan areas, making it a magnet for business travellers, investors and entrepreneurs. The sheer scale of Shanghai can leave you breathless, but if you plan your journey carefully before you arrive you will be able to see some of the most incredible juxtapositions between ancient and modern culture anywhere in the world.

Book a flight to Shanghai with Qatar Airways and you’ll receive the warmest of welcomes from people who embrace visitors from all over the world (Shanghai is home to more than 9 million immigrants).

Tourist attractions

Shanghai is split into two districts by the Huangpu River - Puxi and Pudong. Puxi is the older of the two, with the majority of modern Shanghai (including the business district) housed in Pudong. To escape the frenetic pace of life of the city head for the beautifully manicured Yuyuan Gardens, which is dotted with classical architecture (although you may have to struggle through the street vendors at the gates). The Bund and the French Concession transports you back to 1920s Shanghai, while modern architecture is well represented in and around Pudong's Lujiazui District.

One of the more unusual attractions is Zhujiajiao Water Town, a classic ‘water village’ that’s over 400 years old and with a signature five-arch bridge spanning the Cao Gang River. It’s a maze of paths and bridges, and is also home to two impressive temples.

Other temples throughout the city that are well worth adding to your itinerary include the Jade Buddha Temple, Jing'an Temple, Chenghuang and Longhua Temple. To catch a truly breathtaking panoramic view of the entire city head up to the observation point on the Oriental Pearl Tower. To learn more about the history and culture of Shanghai dating back to the Bronze Age, pay a visit to the well-run Shanghai Museum.

Travel Considerations

Flights to Shanghai with Qatar Airways land at Shanghai Pudong International Airport. Visa restrictions for entry into the country will depend on your country of origin, length of stay and whether your trip is for business or pleasure. Before you fly to Shanghai please check the visa and passport requirements.
