Bangkok is famous for its exotic atmosphere, with tall, thrusting skyscrapers at its financial heart but the promise of ornate temples and colourful night markets around every corner. It’s a modern capital that takes its heritage preservation seriously, and the result is a cosmopolitan city with a range of harmonious cultural influences.
The numerous canals that radiate from the River Chao Phraya are reminiscent of Amsterdam, but there the resemblance ends because Bangkok is fully oriental; its numerous temples and spires unmistakably Eastern.
