Book flights from Nairobi to Beijing with Qatar Airways

On flights from Nairobi to Beijing with Qatar Airways, you have a whole range of world-class services to look forward to, all designed to make your passenger experience a memorable one. They include spacious seating, allowing you to relax in comfort, a menu of delicious cuisine, and more.

Beijing is a magical city, a strange and exotic mix of old and new elements. Reminders of Imperial China are everywhere, as the Forbidden City still broods over the central part of Beijing and the Great Wall is just a short drive away from here. Open to the general public nowadays, it was for centuries strictly off-limits to all but the ruling dynasties and their courts. Don’t miss Mai Zedong’s Mausoleum in Tiananmen Square either, and the wonderful collections in the National Museum of China.

Arriving in Beijing

Huge, intense and expanding at an enormously fast pace, China’s capital of Beijing is one of the most eclectic cities in the world. Ancient traditional culture sits alongside ultra-modern skyscrapers, and a booming retail sector seems strangely at odds with the still-prevalent Maoist ideals that govern everyday aspects of the people’s lives.

The city was the home of the Ming and Qing dynasty emperors until the formation of a republic in 1911. Today it is the cultural, educational and political centre of the country, filled with historical landmarks and a thriving commercial sector. Book a flight to Beijing with Qatar Airways and discover a huge city with an even bigger heart that welcomes visitors from around the world.

Tourist attractions

Beijing covers an area of over 16,000sq.km, so it’s important to plan any itinerary carefully. The heart of the city is Tiananmen Square in Dongcheng District. Surrounded by a host of attractions, it is the world's largest public square and a must see for all visitors. A cluster of grand buildings are positioned around the Square, making it a great introduction to the city for visitors. Attractions include the Great Hall of the People, the Museum of Chinese History, the Museum of the Chinese Revolution, the Qianmen Gate and the legendary Forbidden City.

For sports lovers, the iconic Bird’s Nest Stadium in Chaoyang District was home of the 2008 Olympics and is still host to internationally important sporting events. Close by you’ll also find the remains of the medieval city including the Ming Dynasty City Wall Site Park in Chongwen District, the Drum and Bell Towers in Dongcheng District, and Qianmen in Chongwen District.

The Forbidden City is now open to foreign visitors, after being a secret for centuries. This remarkable landmark was home to the Imperial Court during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and is filled with treasures from these periods.

Travel Considerations

Flights to Beijing with Qatar Airways land at Beijing Capital International Airport. Visa restrictions for entry into the country will depend on your country of origin, length of stay and whether your trip is for business or pleasure. Before you fly to Beijing please check the visa and passport requirements.

Flying from Nairobi

Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta International Airport is the largest airport in Kenya and is a major hub for both commercial and civil air transport in East Africa . It is named after the country's first president and prime minister, and serves the country’s capital city.

Efficient and friendly, passengers flying from Nairobi with Qatar Airways will find this an excellent start to their journey, with friendly staff, good facilities and a smooth, hassle-free departure experience.

Transportation and parking

Travel from the capital is reasonably easy to arrange. Official taxis, operated by Kenatco, take approximately 20-30 minutes from the centre of Nairobi to the airport, although during busy periods this can double.

An alternative to taxis are the airport shuttle coaches Citi Hoppa (distinctive yellow and green vehicles), although advice is that travellers book an official taxi as their first choice. Parking at the airport is limited with just 900 short-term and 100 long-term parking spaces in total.

Arriving in Nairobi

The airport is currently undergoing major redevelopment, with a new terminal scheduled for opening in 2016. Currently, all passengers flying from Nairobi with Qatar Airways leave from the Departures area of the old terminal.

Note that current security measures in Nairobi are exceptionally tight, so it is highly advised that passengers arrive at least 2-3 hours before their flight is due to board to clear check in and security procedures.

Facilities and amenities

There are no business facilities at the airport, although this may be addressed once the new terminal opens. A VIP lounge is available for business class and first class travellers.

Paid-for Wi-Fi access is available throughout the terminal, and an internet café in the Departures area is also open for passengers. A restaurant is located on the fifth floor, and a café is open in Unit 1.

Additional restaurants and drinks outlets are located in Unit 2, and cafés and snack bars can be found in Unit 3. Numerous retail outlets provide passengers with a good choice of African goods and souvenirs, luxury goods, Duty Free and accessories.
