Transportation and parking

The airport is large, but fortunately the network of ground transport including buses and train connections make it easy to find your way around.

Connections to the airport from Shanghai itself are also excellent, and passengers can travel to the airport by bus, taxi or the extraordinary Maglev (magnetic levitation) train line, which is an incredible feat of technological engineering. The Metro also connects downtown Shanghai to the airport.

Be aware that many taxi drivers will not speak English, so it may be advisable to ask your hotel to book a taxi for you. Parking is reasonable, with various parking areas near the terminals for both short and long-term stays.

Arriving at Shanghai Pudong International Airport

Passengers flying from Shanghai with Qatar Airways will depart from Terminal 2. The terminal has a very spacious lounge for departures.

You should arrive approximately two hours before your flight is due to leave, but expect delays.

Facilities and amenities

There are limited facilities in terminal 2 for departure passengers. A small selection of retail outlets sell local goods and a range of accessories and some luxury goods.

A duty free shop provides a typical selection of goods including perfumes, and there are some food and drink vendors selling local delicacies.

A select number of restaurants offer more substantial meals, and cuisine is almost exclusively Asian in nature.

The Al Koot Fort was built in 1880, and is a popular photographic stop for tourists visiting Souq Waqif – a charming traditional market and the social heart of the city.  The Clock Tower is next to the Grand Mosque, and because of its hilltop position it offers panoramic views of Doha and the Corniche.

Doha Heritage Village is located along the Corniche in Al Rumeilia Park, and is based on a traditional Qatari village.
