Tourist attractions
Geneva’s greatest assets are its natural ones – the plentiful activities available on Lake Geneva are an attraction in themselves. Within the city there are lots of interesting buildings, museums and landmarks to explore.
The Jet d'Eau is a remarkable landmark, where a column of water is pumped an incredible 140m into the air. It’s beautifully lit up at night but don’t get too close – the area for half a kilometre around the feature is permanently wet!
The Old Town is worth exploring for an afternoon (be advised that it is on quite a steep incline so people with reduced mobility may find it difficult).
Within this old quarter you will find Rousseau's birth house and various antique shops to browse.
Geneva is well known for its excellent museums, including the Musée d'Art Moderne et Contemporain, which houses an outstanding collection of modern art, the family-friendly Musée d'Histoire Naturelle and the excellent Fondation Baur, Musée des Arts d’Extrême-Orient, which has the largest collection of ceramics in the country.
Geneva also has a number of art galleries that are well worth visiting, stocking modern Swiss painters and contemporary works of art.
