Arriving in Goa
Beloved destination of travellers from the west since the 1960s, Goa is one of the most relaxing and laid-back locations in the world. Famous for its beaches and a tropical lifestyle, it’s a warm, welcoming place that is continuing to grow into an internationally important tourist spot.
A unique blend of Indian and Portuguese culture gives it an eclectic feel unlike any other part of India. The best time to book a flight to Goa with Qatar Airways is between November and February, when the climate is mild. For a truly relaxing holiday that allows you to unwind and leave the pressures of modern life behind you, Goa is the perfect destination.
Tourist attractions
Without doubt the main attraction in Goa are its beaches. Soft sand, warm water that’s perfect for snorkelling and diving and a beach culture that encourages a more laid-back lifestyle attract visitors from all over the world. But Goa has plenty of other attractions, including a plethora of art galleries and museums charting the colonial history of the region, its culture and both traditional and modern art.
Across Goa there are several Butterfly Conservatories (at Rajnagar, Pisgal, Priol and Ponda), which are an enchanting way to spend a day. If you time your visit for the end of January, head to the international music festival at Elliot Grounds, Baga Bridge for two days of top quality acts.
Originally, Goa was known for its spice plantations, and a great way of discovering more about this fascinating trade is to take a spice tour at the Dudhsagar Plantation in Karmane.
