Larnaca is the friendliest and least hectic of the resorts along the south coast of Cyprus. Finikoudes Beach has a seaside promenade lined by palm trees, and leads up to an attractive old Turkish quarter. By contrast, the nearby Mackenzie Beach is more famous for its entertainment venues and nightlife spots. Just offshore from Larnaca is the wreck of the Zenobia, now a popular diving site.

Arriving in Larnaca

Larnaca has been around for a long time. There is evidence of human habitation going back over 6,000 years, making it one of the most important archaeological sites in the world.

Close to some sites of international importance, it is also a thriving tourist hot-spot and one of the most popular destinations on Cyprus’ coast.

Book a flight to Larnaca with Qatar Airways and whether you’re travelling to this glorious Mediterranean island for business or pleasure, you’ll discover a welcome that is as warm as the weather.

Outdoor lovers have plenty to choose from, ranging from water sports and hiking to skiing during the winter, while Larnaca’s position as the capital of the country makes it a major destination for business travellers.

Tourist attractions

One of the most important holy sites in the country is The Hala Sultan Tekke mosque, on the side of the Salt Lake.

The tomb of Umm Haram, the foster mother of Mohammed, is said to be located here, making it a place of pilgrimage for many.

It is also a tranquil and beautiful spot that takes you well away from the crowded streets of the city.

The Salt Lake itself is a natural wonder, and during the winter months flocks of flamingos congregate here, making it a colourful natural spectacle that is well worth travelling out of town to see.

Larnaca’s coast is a diver’s paradise, and with sunken temples and coral reefs it offers a glimpse into an underwater world that’s very different from that you’ll find back on dry land.

One of the city’s ancient locations is the Church of St. Lazarus, built in the 9th century and a magnificent example of early church architecture.

Dotted around the city you’ll also find Roman sites and Greek temples that are well worth visiting.

Flying from Windhoek

Serving the Namibian capital of Windhoek, the Hosea Kutako International Airport is the largest in the country and the main entry and exit point for both business and leisure passengers. This popular airport has been growing over the past few years and is now attracting an increasing number of international travellers, connecting Namibia with major air transport hubs around the world.

Passengers flying from Windhoek with Qatar Airways will find this to be a friendly, efficient and relaxed airport, and a great starting point to any journey.

Transportation and parking

Many of the major hotels in Windhoek provide an airport transfer shuttle service for guests, which is a convenient and reliable method of travel. The practical alternative is to pre-book a taxi, but ensure that you agree the fare first before you start your journey.

Parking is limited at the airport, and although long-term parking is available, most of the spaces are for short-term stays. So it is advisable to make alternative arrangements to store or park your vehicle, and travel to the airport by taxi.

At the airport

Passengers flying from Windhoek with Qatar Airways depart from the International Terminal’s Departures hall. The terminal is quite small in comparison to other international airports, and it is easy to find your way around.

The check-in desks are efficient, but can become crowded and very busy during peak travel times. As with all airports, security is very tight so allow at least two hours to check in and clear customs and security.

Facilities and amenities

The airport includes a number of passenger facilities, including a VIP lounge for First and Business Class passengers. Restaurants and snack vendors provide a wide range of food and beverages, including a mix of African and international cuisine. Some retail outlets sell tourist trinkets, souvenirs and gifts, although they can be a little on the expensive side.

A currency exchange service is available, as are ATMs. Wi-Fi is on offer in some parts of the airport for a fee.
