Book flights from Maputo to Shanghai with Qatar Airways

Great comfort and an unrivalled passenger experience will be the highlight of your trip on flights from Maputo to Shanghai with Qatar Airways. Sit back and relax on spacious seating with extra legroom, enjoy delicious in-flight cuisine, and browse thousands of entertainment options. Our dedicated cabin crew will take care of all your needs and present you a range of world-class services designed to make your trip a memorable one.

Shanghai is a massive Chinese coastal city and an economic hub for the whole country. In the middle of the city you’ll find its historic heart known as the Bund, with its colonial mansions lining the attractive waterfront promenade. The Huangpu River winds through Shanghai, separating the historic area from the more modern and thrusting Pudong district with its steel-and-glass office blocks. This juxtaposition of old and new lends Shanghai much of its charm for visitors. Top attractions include the Yu Gardens and the Oriental Pearl TV Tower.

Flying from Maputo

Just under three kilometres from Mozambique’s capital of Maputo is Maputo International Airport, also known as Lourenço Marques Airport and Mavalane International Airport.

Here, passengers flying with Qatar Airways will find attentive, professional staff dedicated to ensure that the start of any journey is a pleasant and stress-free one.

Transportation and parking

Bus and taxi services run to and from the airport to the centre of the city. Buses are regular and air conditioned, but may not be a practical solution for passengers with a large amount of luggage or travelling with children, as they can be crowded.

It’s advisable to pre-book licensed taxis through your hotel concierge or reception. Parking at the airport is limited, with spaces for around 600 vehicles.

At the airport

Passengers flying from Maputo with Qatar Airways depart from the International Terminal Departures area. The terminal has 14 check-in counters and clear departure panels, making navigating your way around quick and easy.

Security is tight, as at all international airports, but friendly, attentive staff make the process very simple and hassle-free.

You should allow around an hour and a half before your flight is due to board to check-in and go through the thorough security checks.

Facilities and amenities

A VIP lounge provides First and Business Class passengers with a comfortable waiting area that includes some business facilities, newspapers, coffee and Wi-Fi access.

Food and beverages are available from various vendors, cafés and fast food outlets, while a small retail area sells Duty Free travel essentials, books and magazines.

Assistance for disabled passengers is available, and a large waiting area provides comfortable and spacious seating for travellers waiting to board their flights.

Arriving in Shanghai

There’s one word that describes Shanghai – huge. Home to more than 23million people, this vast city is the largest in mainland China and one of the world’s most prosperous metropolitan areas, making it a magnet for business travellers, investors and entrepreneurs. The sheer scale of Shanghai can leave you breathless, but if you plan your journey carefully before you arrive you will be able to see some of the most incredible juxtapositions between ancient and modern culture anywhere in the world.

Book a flight to Shanghai with Qatar Airways and you’ll receive the warmest of welcomes from people who embrace visitors from all over the world (Shanghai is home to more than 9 million immigrants).

Tourist attractions

Shanghai is split into two districts by the Huangpu River - Puxi and Pudong. Puxi is the older of the two, with the majority of modern Shanghai (including the business district) housed in Pudong. To escape the frenetic pace of life of the city head for the beautifully manicured Yuyuan Gardens, which is dotted with classical architecture (although you may have to struggle through the street vendors at the gates). The Bund and the French Concession transports you back to 1920s Shanghai, while modern architecture is well represented in and around Pudong's Lujiazui District.

One of the more unusual attractions is Zhujiajiao Water Town, a classic ‘water village’ that’s over 400 years old and with a signature five-arch bridge spanning the Cao Gang River. It’s a maze of paths and bridges, and is also home to two impressive temples.

Other temples throughout the city that are well worth adding to your itinerary include the Jade Buddha Temple, Jing'an Temple, Chenghuang and Longhua Temple. To catch a truly breathtaking panoramic view of the entire city head up to the observation point on the Oriental Pearl Tower. To learn more about the history and culture of Shanghai dating back to the Bronze Age, pay a visit to the well-run Shanghai Museum.

Travel Considerations

Flights to Shanghai with Qatar Airways land at Shanghai Pudong International Airport. Visa restrictions for entry into the country will depend on your country of origin, length of stay and whether your trip is for business or pleasure. Before you fly to Shanghai please check the visa and passport requirements.
