Name Correction
Qatar Airways strictly forbids agents from creating Speculative bookings with a hope that a Name Change request will be entertained at a later stage. Qatar Airways considers this as an abusive practice which not only prevents genuine passengers the right to reserve a seat as well as a loss to the Airline.
In general Qatar Airways does not allow a name to be changed on an existing PNR. The PNR would need to be cancelled if ticketed/un-ticketed and a new reservation is to be made using the current availability. In instances where a Name Correction is required, it should be done by contacting your nearest Qatar Airways Ofiice.
Name correction shall be understood as correction of passenger's surname (family name), first name, middle name, title or PTC due to spelling mistake or missing part of name (e.g. missing middle name).
Name change shall be understood as complete change of passenger's surname (family name), first name, middle name or any/all combination of them. This process is limited only to cases where passenger legally changed it. Any other scenario is restricted for passengers booked on QR flights, codeshare or interline itineraries and/or ticketed on 157 stock/plate.
Name correction fee: AUD100 and collected as a XP tax on the ticket.
Name correction / Name change before a ticket is issued:
- Passenger’s first name and middle name can be now corrected up to 3 characters by QR or Travel Agent, this count of 3 characters is combined total and shall not be understood as 3 characters for first name and another 3 characters for middle name.
- Title of passenger and space character in the name correction is included in total count of 3 characters.
- Addition, deletion or change of PTC, DOB or Infant can be processed by booking source as well and shall not be included in count of 3 characters.
- For any excess in count of 3 characters or request to modify surname (family name), please contact QR offices for assistance.
- Request for name change for case where passenger legally changed surname (family name), first name, middle name, title or any/all combination of them, will have to be supported by official certificate (legal document).
Name correction / Name change after a ticket is issued:
- For requests related to name correction as well as addition, deletion or modification of Infant in ticketed PNRs booked exclusively on QR operating flights, please contact QR offices for assistance.
- Request for name change for case where passenger legally changed surname (family name), first name, middle name, title or any/all combination of them, will have to be supported by official certificate (legal document).
Note:
- "Name correction" or "name change" for PNRs created from FFP Privilege Club profile are restricted at all times.
- Swapping of names is not permitted.
- E-tickets must be reissued once a Name corrections request has been actioned or else risk cancellation for non-adherence to Qatar Airways requirements.
- Itineraries involving code-share and interline scenarios cannot be accommodated at all times. New PNR will have to be booked and ticketed according to availability and Fare Basis. It is not possible to swap seats between original and new PNR. Segments associated to wrong name will have to be cancelled to avoid no-show and e-ticket with wrong name shall be presented for refund. Please contact QR for further instructions.
Tips on adding passenger name
Full names should be entered as it appears on the travel document to avoid any delays or inconveniences at the airport in addition to any name changes or corrections, since name changes/correction will not be possible in case these changes are not applicable within the name correction/change policy.
*Note: Middle names should be entered on the APIS/passport information added on the booking
First and last names should not exceed 50 characters in length, including the passenger title, and should only include alphabetical characters such as A-Z or a-z.
NAME(S) ELEMENT:
- Title of passenger in name element
- Passenger name
- Use of initials
- Hyphenated or double surnames
- Single letter family names
- No family name
- No given name
NAME CHANGE AND NAME CORRECTION
Creating speculative bookings with the expectation of a Name Change request being accepted later is not permitted. Qatar Airways regards this as an inappropriate practice that can hinder genuine passengers from securing a seat and result in a loss for the airline.
In general Qatar Airways does not allow a name to be changed on an existing PNR. The PNR should be cancelled if ticketed/un-ticketed and a new reservation should be made based on the current availability. In instances where a Name Correction is required, it should be done through Qatar Airways.
All GDS users must use the passenger’s full first name. The use of initials in lieu of the passenger’s full first name will subject the PNR to scrutiny and ultimately cancellation.
NAME(S) ELEMENT
There must always be a Name Element in a PNR, made up of either single or multiple items.
Example Name Element: 1JONES/ARTHUR MR 1SMITH/ANNE MS
Always use full passenger surnames and given names as in the travel document. They must not be abbreviated; government regulations in certain countries prohibit this.
When a passenger is making a reservation, indicate that they already hold a ticket or other accountable document in respect of the reservation being requested. The name entered in the PNR must be the same as that appearing on the document.
Note: Name correction is only possible before the start of the first leg of the
journey.Title of Passenger in Name Element
Following set of title codes should be used in Name Element:
Title |
Gender |
Description |
MR |
Male |
Man / Student / Teenager |
MSTR |
Male |
Child / Young boy / School boy |
MRS |
Female |
Married woman |
MISS |
Female |
Student / Teenager / Child / Young girl / School girl |
MS |
Female |
Woman if unable to recognize as "MRS" |
Passenger Name:
A passenger’s name on a ticket should be displayed as: surname (family name) followed, by an oblique, the given (first) name, and, optionally, the title.
E.g. FERNANDES/PETER MR
Increased regulatory requirements on passenger data highlight the need for accurate recording of the name information. Ideally, the recorded name should match that of an official travel document, e.g. the passport.
Whenever possible, use given names (first and middle), initials, and/or titles to supplement a family name, to ensure accuracy and differentiation. Also, use the same name on the ticket as the PNR.
The name used in the reservation and ticket should match the name in the travel document.
Use of initials:
When the given (first) name is not available at the time of reservation, it may be replaced with initials.
E.g. ABDELKHALEKSUREIMAN/N MR
Hyphenated or double surnames:
When a hyphenated or double surname is involved, omit the hyphen or space
E.g. Dan Stuart-Dinsdale as STUARTDINSDALE/DAN MR
Single letter family names:
To accommodate the ticketing of passengers with a single letter family name:
- Double the single letter family name as the family name; or
- Combine the single letter family name with the first given name of that passenger as the family name
E.g. Mr. Mika X
XX/MIKA MR Or XMIKA/MR
No family name:
Certain countries do not generally use a given first name and a family last name
If the passenger has no family name but has one given name, use the given name as the family name.
Example: On the birth certificate, the person’s name is written as:
Suporno child of Suparman and Wulandari but the passport shows Suporno (male)
Use SUPORNO/MR Or
LNU/SOPORNO MR
No given name:
When given names (first and middle) are not indicated, initials, and/or titles, should be included, whenever possible. If the passenger does not have a given name but has a family name, indicate the family name and then use only the title in the given name field.
E.g. Mr. Doe
DOE/MR Or DOE/FNU
