Popular attractions include the Martin Luther King Historic Site and the Atlanta History Centre, which has exhibits about the Civil War era and native folk art and is set in historic gardens. The Fox Theatre has an Arabian-themed design, as it was originally built as the Yaarab Temple Shrine Mosque in the 1920s.

Flying from Mumbai

Also known as Bombay, Mumbai is one of the busiest cities in the world. Home to over 20 million people, it’s also a huge attraction for overseas business and leisure visitors.

Passengers flying from Mumbai with Qatar Airways will travel through the ultra-modern Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, one of the most important air transport hubs and ranked as the third best in the world in the 25–40 million passengers category by Airports Council International in 2013.

Facilities are outstanding and the efficiency and friendliness of the staff means that travellers will have an excellent passenger experience from start to finish.

Parking and transportation

Mumbai has an extremely efficient public transport system, although because of the sheer number of people crammed into a few square miles, buses and coaches can be very busy.

The transport network includes the Mumbai Suburban Railway, Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) buses, taxis and auto rickshaws, giving travellers plenty of options for getting to and from the airport.

There are 1500 parking spaces at the International terminal and frequent travellers can book a monthly parking pass, which is considerably more cost effective and efficient.

Arriving at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport

Passengers flying from Mumbai with Qatar Airways depart from Terminal 2, which is the main International Terminal. This huge, brand new terminal has 192 check-in counters and 60 immigration counters, and again because of the sheer number of passengers and flights passing through this airport every day, it is advisable to arrive at least two hours before your flight is due to depart.

Lounges are available for all passengers to relax in, including exclusive VIP lounge areas.

Facilities and amenities

The airport is well served with facilities, including plenty of retail outlets and Duty Free areas, where you can buy everything from local handicrafts to top quality perfume.

The Terminal has its own art exhibitions too, which are a pleasure to look at while waiting for your flight.

Wi-Fi is available in public areas, and there are also a luxury wellness area offering everything from quick reflexology foot massages to full body massage and spa treatments.

Arriving in Atlanta

A fascinating blend of traditional Southern charm and 21st century modernism, Atlanta is one of America’s key cities and is home to the world’s busiest airport. The city has been rebuilt more than once, and with a central place at the very heart of America’s history, it’s a fascinating and complex juxtaposition of old and new.

Fly to Atlanta with Qatar Airways and you’ll also discover a vibrant commercial centre that’s attracting businesses and investments from all over the world. You’ll also find a surprising number of Hollywood blockbusters being filmed in Atlanta, and the burgeoning film industry is a new and exciting commercial development in a city that’s continually reinventing itself. Travel outside the city limits and you’ll find yourself surrounded by rolling hills, lush, green farming belts, and the imposing granite Stone Mountain to the east.

Tourist attractions

Atlanta is hugely important historically, so there are plenty of museums to explore to find out more about the city’s role in the founding of modern America. The National Center for Civil and Human Rights charts Atlanta’s pivotal role in the development of the civil rights movement. If you are more interested in the history of the Civil War, then the Atlanta History Center in Buckhead offers a fascinating insight into the conflict that tore America in two.

Art is important to Atlanta’s identity, and some of the best examples can be seen in the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia, and the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center, where you can see exhibitions of up and coming artists.

The other passion of the locals is sports, and the Atlanta Falcons NFC home ground of the Georgia Dome is the place to go to see American Football in all its glory. Baseball’s home in Atlanta is at Turner Field, which has its own museum as well so you can get to grips with the history and the finer points of the game.

Atlanta has more than its fair share of parks and open spaces. The Centennial Olympic Park has a man-made river that’s perfect for cooling off in the hot Georgia summer, while during the winter an ice rink is hugely popular with visitors and locals alike. Piedmont Park hosts open-air music festivals all year round, while Grant Park is the oldest park in the city and home to the Atlanta Zoo.
