Bali, the picturesque Indonesian island, is famous for its volcanic mountains and its beaches, rice paddies and coral reefs. It’s popular with divers and trekkers, and its dramatic landscape is strewn with the remains of old temples and historic villages. There are lots of yoga and meditation retreats, as well as lively resorts like Sanur and Seminyak. The art market in Ubud is a great place to pick up handmade souvenirs, and at the Bali Safari and Marine Park you can enjoy the local wildlife.

Arriving in Bali

The largest city and the capital of the beautiful island of Bali, Denpasar is a stunning blend of ancient and modern. From spectacular monuments and tranquil parks to glittering skyscrapers, it’s a friendly city that welcomes both business and leisure travellers.

Full of temples and palaces, there is plenty to see and do in this busy city. Book a flight to Denpasar with Qatar Airways and you’ll find a city that many tourists overlook as a destination in its own right.

If you pause for a while and explore Denpasar you’ll discover an authentic glimpse of life in Bali away from the usual tourist resorts and hotels, and an incredibly warm and friendly welcome from its people.

Tourist attractions

At the very centre of the city (quite literally) is the Alun-Alun Puputan square, with its huge, four-faced statue, which is supposed to defend the four cardinal points of the compass. It’s also an incredibly useful landmark if you get lost at any time.

To find out more about the history and culture of the island and its people a visit to the Bali Museum is highly recommended. It is spread across four pavilions, with the main pavilion housing a collection of ancient stone, bronze and wooden artefacts.

The southern pavilion has exhibitions of the country’s textiles, while the northern pavilion focuses on the history of Balinese performance art. The central pavilion is devoted to Balinese spirituality.

The Lapangan Puputan Margarana park is a large open space in the heart of the city. You can’t miss the huge Bajra Sandhi monument, which dominates the park.

Bali’s capital is also full of temples that are exquisitely decorated, including the Palace of Satria and the Royal Temples, and the beautiful Pura Maospahit, which is believed to date back to the 14th century.

Travel considerations

Flights to Denpasar with Qatar Airways land at Ngurah Rai International Airport. Visa restrictions for entry into the country will depend on your country of origin, length of stay and whether your trip is for business or pleasure. Before you fly to Denpasar please check the visa and passport requirements.

Flying from Copenhagen

Formerly known as Kastrup Airport, Copenhagen Airport is the largest in Scandinavia and is close to Copenhagen city centre. Because of its importance as the main air hub in Scandinavia, facilities and amenities at the airport are excellent, and passengers flying from Copenhagen with Qatar Airways will discover an efficient, friendly and premium quality service that is focused primarily on the passenger experience.

Transportation and parking

There are several bus services to and from the centre of the city to the airport. There are also free terminal shuttles, which run frequently between the terminals. The Metro station is located at the end of Terminal 3 and runs 4-6 minute intervals during the day and evening hours and every 15-20 minutes during the night. The travel time from Nørreport Station in central Copenhagen to the airport is 15 minutes. Taxis in Copenhagen are plentiful and relatively cheap – you can ask your hotel concierge to arrange either taxis or a limousine service to the airport, which is a better option if you have a lot of luggage. There are more than 10,000 car parking spaces for short, medium and long-term stays.

Arriving to Copenhagen's International Airport

Passengers flying from Copenhagen with Qatar Airways depart from Terminal 2. The CPH lounge is open to all passengers, while the Aspire and the Aviator lounges also offer a selection of facilities including Wi-Fi.

Facilities and amenities

An extensive business centre with 29 meeting rooms is available in Terminal 3, while Terminal 2 (International flights) offers a good selection of facilities too. Wi-Fi is available for a fee, and there are Internet kiosks throughout Terminal 2. Banks, ATMs and a Bureau de Change are located in T2, and there is also a good selection of retail outlets offering passengers an excellent choice of goods and accessories. Food and drinks vendors are plentiful, serving everything from some Danish and Scandinavian specialities through to international cuisine. There’s a play area for children and, unusually, a special lounge area for teenagers too.
