Flying from Pisa
Home of the world-famous Leaning Tower and a host of other iconic monuments, Pisa is one of Italy’s most popular tourist destinations and a busy commercial centre.
It then comes as no surprise that the Pisa International Airport, also known as Galileo Galilei Airport, handles nearly five million passengers every year, and is a key departure point for both leisure and business travellers.
Passengers flying from Pisa with Qatar Airways will find it to be a bright, well-run and efficient airport, with an attentive and helpful staff.
Transportation and parking
The fastest way to get to the airport is on the ultra-fast and fully automatic PisaMover train, which connects from Pisa Central station directly to the airport every 5-8 minutes.
The journey time is eight minutes, making this the most efficient and stress-free way to get to the airport. However, if you are carrying heavy baggage or are travelling with children then there are plenty of taxis available round the clock.
Journey time by taxi is approximately 10 minutes. Buses leave the town centre to the airport terminal every ten minutes, and are also a quick and affordable way to get to the airport in under ten minutes.
There are both short and long-term parking spaces at the airport, with room for 1,200 vehicles.
At the airport
Passengers flying from Pisa with Qatar Airways depart from the main terminal’s Departures hall. As the airport is also a base for the Italian Air Force and is used extensively by the military, expect security to be exceptionally tight.
Check-in, however, is smooth and quick, and an information desk can help to direct you to the correct check-in desk for Qatar Airways flights.
Facilities and amenities
Facilities at the airport are diverse and comprehensive, and range from a business centre providing all the equipment you need for a successful conference of up to 50 people, through to a chapel, a hairdresser and even a ballet school.
The shopping area has over 20 outlets and a Duty Free shop, while three restaurants and a number of fast food vendors provide everything from fine Italian cuisine to on-the-go snacks and excellent coffee.
Wi-Fi access is free for the first 60 minutes, and there are also fixed internet stations, a bank, and a currency exchange desk.
