You can discover more about the various cultures that have influenced the country at the National Museum of Colombo and the Dutch Period Museum.

Other must-see attractions in the city include the Buddhist temples of Kelaniya Rajamaha Viharaya, Gangaramaya and Seema Malaka -- the latter of which is famed for its incredibly tranquil lakeside location.

Traditional Sri Lankan entertainment incorporates intricate shadow puppetry, and one of the more eccentric attractions is the Traditional Puppet Art Museum, where you’ll see delicately crafted puppets and dioramas made by local artists.

Flying from Manchester

While most people fly to London Heathrow when travelling to the U.K., further north the rapidly expanding Manchester International Airport is becoming a powerhouse of aviation and air transportation.

Major expansion plans are underway, with the intention of making Manchester Airport a World Logistics Hub by 2030. The expansion could make Manchester one of the most important international airports in the world. Flights from Manchester with Qatar Airways link you to major destinations in Europe, the Middle East and Far East.

Transportation and parking

Manchester Airport has its own rail terminal, which is connected to all terminals using a Skylink moving walkway. A Metrolink service from Cornbrook station to the airport runs every 12 minutes.

The airport also has its own central ground transport hub - The Station - which connects buses, coaches and rail services under one roof. Over 300 trains, 100 coaches and 500 buses use the facility daily.

Short-stay parking areas are adjacent to each terminal, and a long-stay parking area is situated next to Terminal 2. There are also two ‘Jetparks,’ which are long-stay car parks approximately a mile from the terminals.

Arriving at Manchester

Flights from Manchester with Qatar Airways depart from Terminal 2. This expansive terminal has 20 gates, 14 of which have air bridges. An expanded air-side departure lounge, improved security and a select choice of amenities makes this a very relaxed and comfortable departure point.
