Goa has a mixed culture that is a product of its history as a Portuguese colony, with indigenous Indian influences added in. Visitors have been attracted to Goa since the 1960s, for its serene and relaxed atmosphere, great natural beauties and more recently by attractions such as the Houses of Goa museum in Benaulim. Goa’s beaches are of course its main glory, but there are also plenty of good shops and restaurants in the towns.

Tourist attractions
Without doubt the main attraction in Goa are its beaches. Across Goa there are several Butterfly Conservatories (at Rajnagar, Pisgal, Priol and Ponda), which are an enchanting way to spend a day. If you time your visit for the end of January, head to the international music festival at Elliot Grounds, Baga Bridge for two days of top quality acts.
Originally, Goa was known for its spice plantations, and a great way of discovering more about this fascinating trade is to take a spice tour at the Dudhsagar Plantation in Karmane.
