Arriving in Los Angeles
The ‘City of Angels’ is one of the most remarkable cities on earth. From the coastal communities of Long Beach and Manhattan Beach to the heart of the Hollywood and Beverly Hills, LA is truly extraordinary. This thriving city is also surrounded by spectacular natural beauty including mountain ranges, valleys, forests, beautiful beaches along the Pacific Ocean, and nearby desert.
Book a flight to Los Angeles with Qatar Airways and you’ll immediately discover that one visit is never enough. Beyond the usual tourist hotspots there is so much more to LA, and at Qatar Airways we’re always happy to take you back to this incredible place time and time again. Look beyond the movie sets and trashy tourist spots and discover the real Los Angeles.
Tourist attractions
Once you’ve ticked off the usual LA landmarks such as Hollywood, Universal Studios and Rodeo Drive, it’s time to look a little bit deeper into the city’s diverse attractions. Historical buildings pepper the city, and Olvera Street is the historic centre of LA. El Pueblo de Los Ángeles Historical Monument represents the city’s Spanish/Mexican origins, and a plaque across the plaza commemorates the founding of the city in 1781.
Northeast LA tends to be less overrun with tourists, and is home to several museums and exhibitions that chart the history of California, from its origins through the Gold Rush era and beyond. One of the best of these is The Heritage Square Museum, an open-air museum and historic architecture exhibit in Montecito Heights.
Other museums include the renowned Getty Center, which also has some truly beautiful gardens, the Museum of Contemporary Art, and the unusual La Brea Tar Pits and Page Museum, which has the remains of Ice Age creatures and artefacts going back thousands of years.
LA is famous for its parks too. Griffith Park is a former ostrich farm and is now a beautifully landscaped park – a great place to get away from the noise and smog of Downtown LA.
