These two citadels stand guard over Qasr Al Alam Royal Palace, which although not open to the public is still worth seeing from the outside.
The Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque is the third-largest mosque in the world, and a truly special place of contemplation and devotion. It’s also home to some spectacular artefacts, including a dazzling Swarovski crystal chandelier, and the second largest hand made Persian carpet in the world.
Muscat has plenty of open spaces too, and one in particular is popular with visitors. The Qurum National Park is also known as the Rose Gardens, and has spectacular displays of fragrant blooms all year round, as well as a man-made waterfall and lake.
