Book flights from Sydney to Rome with Qatar Airways

On flights from Sydney to Rome with Qatar Airways you can be sure of an exceptional travel experience during your trip. This begins as soon as you check-in, and continues with spacious seating that’s specially designed around your comfort. A menu of tantalising gourmet cuisine is served in-flight by friendly and attentive cabin crew, who deliver a quietly efficient level of personal service and offer you a selection of award-winning services during the flight. These refined facilities are all designed to make your time pass enjoyably and peacefully, allowing you to relax and refresh yourself during your flight to the Italian capital.

Rome has exerted a global influence on art, culture and architecture for three millennia. The Colosseum and the Forum are still powerful remnants of the mighty Roman Empire, and the Vatican Museum is home to priceless treasures such as the Sistine Chapel frescoes painted by Michelangelo. Don’t miss other attractions like the Spanish Steps and the fabulous luxury boutique shopping.

Arriving in Rome

If you want to experience everything that Rome has to offer but want a little bit of individuality thrown into the mix, book a flight to Fiumicino with Qatar Airways and discover an often-overlooked part of this beautiful region. Originally a simple fishing village just a few miles from the historic capital, Fiumicino is today an attractive destination loved by locals and travellers in the know.

A much more tranquil and sedate pace of life lulls you into a relaxed state of mind, and if you want the vibrancy and energy of Rome then it’s only a short drive away. But there is plenty in this pretty location to keep you interested and amused.

Tourist attractions

The biggest attraction in the area is the ancient Roman settlement of Ostia Antica, the historic ancestor of the modern town. This bay area at the mouth of the Tiger river is picturesque and a haven for wildlife, making it a serene change from the usual tourist destinations.

One of the more unusual attractions is a small mud volcano that popped into existence on the Coccia di Morto roundabout in 2013! Although currently dormant, local geologists (and road cleaners) are keeping a careful eye on it just in case it becomes active again.

Shopping in Fiumicino is surprisingly good, and if you don’t want to fight through the crowds in nearby Rome then there is plenty to buy in the new Malo Moda mall or the smaller boutiques in the town itself. The main ingredient to any trip to Fiumicino is relaxation – a visit to this location is a welcome change from the frenetic pace of life in nearby Rome.

Flying from Sydney

Australia’s best-known city is not actually its capital, but the harbour-side metropolis of Sydney.

This location is full of iconic buildings and landmarks, and is served by one of the largest airports in the country, Sydney (Kingsford Smith) Airport. Just 8km from the city centre, it is also the oldest international airport in the world, and passengers flying from Sydney with Qatar Airways will find it to be a friendly, relaxed yet extremely efficient departure point. Staff are polite and helpful, and the facilities at this extensive airport are excellent.

Transportation and parking

Its close proximity to the centre of Sydney means that there is plenty of transport available to and from the heart of the city to the airport itself. The Airport Link rail service connects the three terminals to Sydney Central Station and takes just under half an hour. Terminal 1 has its own railway station, while Terminals 2 and 3 share a station.

Sydney buses run to and from the terminals and take around 40-45 minutes, depending on the time of day and traffic conditions. Taxis are plentiful, and the journey time from the centre to the airport is around 30 minutes. Parking at the airport is plentiful, and there are four car parks to choose from.

The International Car Park is located opposite Terminal 1 and provides short and long-term stays. Other car parks are designed for domestic and short-term visitors. Valet parking is available.

Arriving in Sydney

Passengers flying from Sydney with Qatar Airways depart from Terminal 1. The terminal is particularly large, so ensure that you check the departure boards on arrival for your gate number. Recently, security at Sydney Airport has been tightened, so allow extra time to check in and to clear customs and security checks.

Facilities and amenities

Communications facilities are excellent, with free Wi-Fi available throughout Terminals 1 and 2. Internet kiosks are also located both pre and post-security, and mobile telephone hire is available from several vendors in the arrivals area of Terminal 1. There are more than 150 shops and retail outlets at the airport, with a huge selection of luxury and designer goods, tourist souvenirs and Duty Free.

The food court offers a broad choice of both on-the-go fast food and more formal dining options, with plenty of beverages and snack vendors to sample too.
